Is there a way that I can dye brass?
I want to dye 32-64 little pieces of brass. Spoke nipples on a bike wheel, specifically. Is there a way to dye brass in a way that will give it the appearance of anodizing, or am I hoping too high? I'm stuck with brass instead of aluminum because my spokes are aluminum and the two will bind together after lots of riding...
I can tell you this, if you heat brass up to red hot it will oxidize quickly to black. Less heat give you less darkness. There is also the process of case hardening that will put blue streaks through it but the part your working on is too small for that to be noticed. All else fails? Paint.
