Before we look into which borders there are, let's first look at the function of a black border. Why is it there in the first place?
Because this is what the black border around the screen should do: surround the image, so it has more punch. Here's how that works: A black border makes the projection look brighter, because the image is surrounded by black. This results in an improved perceived image brightness.
Basically, there are 4 places where you can have a border:
1. left side
2. right side
3. top
4. bottom
Mostly the sides and bottom borders are the same and most attention goes out to the top. But we're looking at the bottom one this time. It seems like such a small detail; because it's below the projection screen area. So why should you care?
Well, it can have a big impact on your movies or games.
That's because some manufacturers use a metal black bar to create this border in the bottom section of the fabric. They do so because it's more work and thus more expensive for them to create the same border as on the sides of the screen.
The result: they're selling you short and here's why:
- It's very hard to perfectly match the projected imaged to the white projection area. So, often you'll end up with a little bit of the projected image on the black borders. That's usually not a problem, because the black borders reflect very little. But, when there's light on a black metal bar, there's a lot more light that's reflected back. This makes the black frame less effective.
- The metal bars used are quite narrow (2.5 cm / 1 inch wide). This reduces the impact of having a black border, as it doesn't frame the projected image as well as a wide black border. This gives your images less punch as a projection screen with wide black borders.
- The side black borders are 2 inches / 5 cm wide. When a metal bar is used, as mentioned above, it's only an inch / 2.5 cm wide. This creates a projection screen that looks unbalanced.
So if you're in the market for a projection screen, look at the details, such as this lower border. It will give you a better screen that will make you enjoy your movies more.

Laid back girl going to super high class restaurant/bar/club, HELP!!!?
I recently turned 21 and am still totally new to the whole bar/club scene. I have only been to college bars and "typical" places. Nevertheless, I am going on a first date to some really high-end restaurant/bar/club in north scottsdale.
I got a solid black coctail dress (which i hope will work), a wristlet (from NY&C), and am going to wear black heels. Hopefully my lack of designer labels won't horrify everyone. I don't know anything about up-scale places and their formalities, so any advice is great.
What is a good drink to order for a new drinker that isn't strong, do i order my own drink at the bar or should I let my date order it for me?
Also, any tips so I don't look stupid in a sea of wealthy, club savvy people would be appreciated.
order a martini. make it a dirty martini if you want it strong. if they ask what type of vodka say grey goose. its a classy yet hip drink that a lot of young woman like. don't drink more than two or you might start getting tipsy. there is nothing less classy than a drunk girl at a bar. mature men can't stand it.
