Basket Buddy Bike

President Herbert Hoover has been credited with using the phrase, "a chicken in every pot and a car in every backyard..." as a campaign slogan. In truth, the president did not use those words himself, but some of his campaign advertising did.

Today, with gas prices getting higher all the time, a better way of wording the above sentiment might be, "Why not a rechargeable electric bike in every garage?"

Would that be such an impossible goal?

Instead of hopping into the car to drive to a store a couple of miles away to pick up a loaf of bread and a quart of milk, (not to mention spending more on gasoline in the process than both items together would cost,) why not hop on your handy electric bike and pick up the items for practically no transportation cost at all? Or get your teen out from in front of that computer game for a while and send him or her.

When you compare the cost of three trips around the block before you find a parking place for your car and a quarter for the parking meter with the five cents worth of electricity it took to recharge your bike and the free parking at the rack in front of the store, it makes you wonder why you didn't switch to an electric bike years ago.

An added incentive for using the electric bike is that you can pedal along the way if you aren't in too big a rush, and end up adding some physical exercise to your day with not much extra effort at all.

Short jaunts to a nearby store, or out around the neighborhood for some much needed fresh air and exercise are ideal for electric bikes. Equipped with a basket, they are perfect for carting books to and from the library.

Saying that taking the car is faster is not always true. By the time you find the car keys, get the car started, drive to your destination and back, you have probably spent just as much time as you would have spent if you had done the same errand on your bike.

Most people supporters of using electric bikes are not asking that we dump our cars. Not at all. Common sense tells us that cars will be around for a long time to come. No one expects you to get dressed up in your Sunday best for church and ride your bike to church in a rainstorm or on an icy street. And, I'm sure they aren't suggesting that you mount a buddy seat of the bike to haul your girlfriend to a late night movie---although, if she likes to ride, there is no reason why you couldn't approach the subject with her.

What electric bike enthusiasts are asking is that more people consider getting an electric bike to use as a second vehicle; one that can help cut down congestion and pollution in our cities and towns, and one that can help you, individually save money by lessening your dependence on high priced gasoline.

Don't you think it is something worth looking into?

How To Make Exercises More Fun

People often start an exercise program and then quickly give it up because it's boring. It just isn't fun. Exercise needs to be fun if we are going to stick at it and get really fit. We have to want to do it everyday for at least half an hour.

Unless we have a drill sergeant shouting at us then we just won't do enough exercise without it is fun. The drill sergeant option is very pleasant. Going to the gym is not meant to be like boot camp.

When we exercise on our initiative we have to be self motivated. What keeps is going is the feeling pf pleasure that exercise gives us.

Exercise releases dopamine the pleasure chemical into the brain and raises our serotonin levels which is the body chemical that makes us happy. We often have this experience when we first begin to exercise. But after a while the effect seems to wear off as we continue.

The reason for this is that we have to do a little more each time we exercise. We have to set ourselves new challenges. There is no point doing the same exercises week in week out and expecting to get the same result.

It is important to watch your heart rate when you are exercising and learn how it feels to you at certain rates. That way you will begin to understand how hard you are working even when you are not monitoring it.

Each training session should take you to a slightly higher level. We have to push ourselves more each time to get the pleasurable sense of achievement from exercise.

A good trainer can be helpful here. But the trainer must understand your fitness level and your goals. There is no absolute level that everyone must attain. One persons best may not be another person's best. Everyone has their own goals and their own rate of achieving them.

Some people enjoy exercising with other people. An exercise buddy can be a real help in keeping up our motivation. The exercise buddy should be about the same levelof fitness as you and have similar goals.

For some people competitive sports, especially team sports, are a good option. A game of basket ball or five-a-side soccer can become a regular fixture in your exercise program if you enjoy sports and find the gym boring.

Racquet ball, squash or tennis offer the opportunity to develop skills as well as get fit. They demand a high level of hand eye coordination.

Cycling in the gym on an exercise bike does not appeal to everyone but a bike ride in the countryside may be a different matter. If you have a family then a weekly trip out on your bikes can be a good way of getting the whole family fit.

Swimming also offers a good way of getting the whole family active. One of the best ways of making exercise fun is to do it with other people and children have so much natural vitality that family activities can be the most fun of all.

You can plan out an exercise program that involves a different activity every day. Depending whether it is a work day or a day off work you can arrange different activities in the lunch break or after work or a whole day once a week.

The art of making exercise fun is about variety and new challenges. No body wants to keep doing the same thing. So make your fitness program an active on that is constantly embracing new activities. That will ensure that you keep your fitness program going and do not give up half way through.

Doggles dog goggles what do you think of them?

I have a Nirve hello kitty Cruiser bicycle and a Snoozer bike basket buddy also pink I have been reading about rocks and other debris flying into dogs eyes and I occasionally ride up on my bike to our local feed and seed store where pets are allowed and I found they sell them at pet smart but of course they don't have x-small-small goggles and I found a pair through my online catalog I order from. What do you think of them or have you ever used them. I don't need any smart answers reguarding dressing dogs up in clothing my dogs don't mind and they like the attention.

i have used them but not for bike riding ... but if where you are cycling there will be rocks and debris it would be a good idea ... i have the exact same bike basket for my dog and i only cycle on paved bike paths so i did not find the need for them ... but when i would bring my dog in my friends fast boat she wanted to stand at the front when going fast and i found her eyes were watery after a day of that so i got some doggles and they were great ... and where i live i do see people cycling with their dogs in baskets wearing doggles ...
