Motorcycles and cars are different as motorcycles and bicycles are different. A motorcycle looks more like a bicycle than a car but that is where the similarity ends. What do I need to know to find out How do I learn How to Ride a Motorcycle?

Operating a motorcycle requires skills similar to operating a car more than operating a bicycle yet those skills are applied differently. If you look at the key operational controls of both vehicles, the differences will surface.

In a car operational control is based on the following: right foot controls throttle and brake, right hand controls gear shift, left foot controls clutch, left hand control directional steering.

On a motorcycle operational control is based on the following: right foot controls rear brake, right hand controls throttle and front brake, left foot shifts gears, left hand controls clutch. Both hands control directional steering during all operations.

                                           Car                                          Motorcycle

Right Foot               throttle, brake                            rear brake

Right Hand                  gear shift                        throttle, front brake

        Left Foot                      clutch                                  gear shift

        Left Hand               directional control                          clutch

Safely riding a motorcycle requires specific training to learn emergency coordination of controls that are unique to that vehicle. The following are some key emergency responses in riding a motorcycle.

  • Locking the rear brake only during an emergency stop will result in the rear tire sliding out of control contributing to loss of control of the motorcycle. Both front and rear brakes applied simultaneously maintain control.
  • At speeds, over 12 MPH the steering response of a motorcycle reverses. At very low speeds motorcycle steering is like a bicycle, turn the handle bar in the direction desired and the motorcycle will go in that direction. At speeds in excess of 12 MPH, an effect known as "counter steering" occurs where the direction you turn the handle bars results in the motorcycle moving in the opposite direction.
  • A motorcycle will follow the eyes of the rider. If you stare at an object in the road to attempt to avoid it, probabilities are you will hit that object. The rider must learn to see the object but look at the road beyond the object to avoid impact.
  • A motorcycle at speed takes on a gyroscopic nature that resist turns from a straight line. At this speed, counter steering is the only method to control direction of travel. You can move your weight around in the saddle to shift the center of gravity to aid turning if desired.

There are many other capabilities of a bike to review when considering motorcycle riding as an interest. The above represents only a few emergency skills required of a rider before taking the machine to the streets.

Safety in riding requires training. As with golf, tennis, or skiing the best success come from a professional teaching you as a beginner the skills required in the particular area. In motorcycle riding, the Motorcycle Safety Foundation is an organization dedicated to teaching the interested rider how to ride safely and responsibility.

Cannondale 1000

5 Reasons To Know Why Cannondale and Cannondale 1000 Is So Interesting

The following article contains, what I think at least, useful tips about cannondale and cannondale 1000.

Let's face it, reading 5 tips isn't going to change your life, but at least it will give you an idea about what you can find out about cannondale.

I hope that you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed collating them. You can never know enough about cannondale, can you?

Tip #1

Another accessory update that helps are pedals with teeth. Most new bicycles come with stock pedals that offer no real grip. These types of pedals are made of solid steel and have teeth or claws that provide a strong grip for the soles of your shoes. These types of pedals can prevent your feet from slipping off of the pedals which can cause an accident.

Tip #2

Bicycle Seats are very important. Many people do not ride a bike because it makes their backside hurt. Your position on the bike is as important as having a comfortable seat to keeping your butt from hurting. Proper seat height makes a big difference in how much weight is on your seat. A common problem is having your seat too low which puts more weight on your backside making riding less comfortable.

Tip #3

However, the biggest problem with riding a bicycle is the exposure to danger when sharing the road with larger vehicles. Clearly, the person on a bicycle is at a distinct disadvantage to someone in a one ton vehicle, which means that many bicycle accidents result in serious injuries and even death.

Tip #4

These days, with the LED (Light Emitting Diode) technology being what it is, flashlights, bicycle headlights, and even other LED products, can be super bright. So with a battery operated, bright white LED bike headlight, you or your family members can be safe when out cycling at night or in the early morning hours. And, as I said earlier, it is the law in many areas that bicyclists have to have an illuminating headlight between dusk and dawn.

Tip #5

How your bike is set up has an enormous effect on how you ride. The position of the saddle [seat] and handlebars help to determine the type of performance the rider can expect.

That's it for the tips, I hope that you liked them.

Even though I have only shared 5 cannondale and cannondale 1000 tips with you, feel free to share this article with anyone who you may feel will benefit.

What would be the best upgrade for my bicycle?

Just got an old 70's PEUGEOT touring/road bike. I want to know what will make the biggest improvement?
PROBLEMS:
-seat/saddle is pretty uncomfortable and my butt feels like it's bruised everytime I sit on it...but it's the original seat and looks pretty good
-wheels/rims are a little bent and need to be realigned.
-brakepads are old
-Old handlebar tape gives me blisters
WHAT I WANT TO DO:
-get completely new wheel set (rims tires and tubes)
-get new pads...at least...maybe new brakes as well
-get the handlebars rewrapped in white cork tape.
-get new peddals or just a strap or toe cage.
WHAT I HAVE DONE:
-took off the wheel wells/fenders and lights to loose some weight.
-adjust seat to right position
PLEAS LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THING WILL HELP?

From what I see in the [small] pic, your bike looks to be in pretty good condition. You ask for THE biggest improvement you could make, but all the problems you indicate are important.

Brakes are important. If the pads are old, then replacements are cheap and will last a long time. Don't bother with new brake calipers unless they're so lousy that they will perform poorly even with new pads. Or unless you just want to throw money at it. Try new pads and an adjustment otherwise. Also, inspect the brake cables & housing; if they're in poor condition, you'll gain increased braking performance with replacements. If the cables/housing is in good shape, a cable cleaning/lubing may still be in order. You can find all the info you need for doing this yourself online or at the library.

If the wheels are strong, the rims aren't worn, and the hubs are good, then just get them trued by a qualified person. A new, quality wheelset isn't cheap, and you may be better off putting that money aside for a future bike purchase.

Do you wear gloves? Even so, replace the bar tape if you want. It's not expensive, and you should have little difficulty doing it yourself. The money you save by wrapping your bar yourself can pay for those brake pads you're replacing. If you want a bit more cushion, check out the gel tapes as well as the gel pads you can mount under your choice of tape.

Pedals? You don't mention the type of riding you do or what the problem is with your current pedals.

For the saddle, make sure the width correctly supports your sit bones. If so, check the angle of the seat. Even a slight angle in the wrong direction can cause discomfort on even short rides. Plan on adjusting the seat several times until you get it right. If the seat still isn't comfortable or isn't matched for your dimensions, go the bike shop. See what they've got that will work for you and is still in your budget. Take your bike with you and have them install and adjust he seat for you if they want the sale. Don't be afraid to spend a few dollars; don't go too cheap on your comfort. You've already saved money by truing your wheels rather than replacing. Besides, a properly sized, quality seat can be moved to your next bike in the near future.

If you don't need the fenders/lights, then you did right by removing them. As for weight, though, don't get too caught up in it. It will make you stronger.
