Worn Brake Pads Please Help ?
I have a BMX with cantilever brakes on the front and v brakes on the back. Also on the back brake there is a weired type of double wired braking mechanism just below the handelbars.
What I am asking is, recently both front and back brakes have stopped stopping me. The levers, and cables seem to work alright, but i have noticed that the brake pads look shiny and smooth. Does this mean that I need new pads and could worn pads cause the sudden failure to stop. (The bike will slow down eventually, probally after 50yds or so).
Thank You in Advance.
You should take an emory board to the pads if there is still some pad left and sand them a little to bring them back around. Wipe the rim down with rubbing alcohol to remove the glaze from the braking surface. This may correct your problem, if not then buy new pads! there isn't any other way really.
