BMX Bikes – The ET Movie and the Olympics
During my growing up years I always wanted a BMX. I asked for one of these two wheeled wonders for every Christmas and every birthday. Unfortunately my family wasn't particularly well off and I had to settle for a pre owned, black, re painted 5 gear racing bicycle.
Please do not misinterpret me, I loved it and it became a treasured possession but I still couldn't help covet a shiny new BMX! Having said that, after watching the movie E.T back in the early 80's I also believed that if I had a BMX bike that I would be able to fly over my house on it! Years later, sailing over houses in videogames was scant consolation!
Obviously, during those days the entire BMX thing was brand new and on Christmas mornings the streets seemed to be full of kids zooming up and down pavements, which were littered with crude home made and often dangerous ramps, on their new bicycles, the large majority of which were the phenomena that was to become BMX.
Eerily enough, even with the many stunts these bikes are capable of performing, none of them ever did fly over the house, and not even Mad Jimmy from number 14 could do it and boy did he try!
Thirty years or there about later and despite BMX bikes still not able fly they are still very cool and are more popular than ever. For the first time in its history in 2008 they became a successful part of the Olympic Games in Beijing.
During the Olympics in China - year 2008, racing was the only BMX discipline to take part but with the ever growing popularity of the sport in general, it is only a matter of time before Freestyle is included too.
Riding Flatland BMX is yet another style of riding that is growing in popularity and as with other forms of BMX discipline requires great skill to master.

How to paint a bmx bike frame?
I have a kink bmx bike frame. I want to paint it matte black. Can you explain to me what kind of spray cans I need to make it look professional and what I should do to the frame before painting it. Thank You!
Strip all the paint off, fine sand the frame, try and buy the paint at an auto supply store or paint store, hoping for the best quality, hang the bike in a dust free room, spray, dry, wet sand, spray, dry, wet sand, spray dry. Test your technique on a scrap piece of metal tubing before spraying the bike. Normally you'd clear coat it. Maybe they make a matte clear coat.
Be sure and seal all the holes in the frame before painting and pray for the paint gods to smile on you.
Have fun.
Alternately, take the unstripped frame to a powder coating shop and see if they can matte finish it. Probably cost less.
