The first of its kind, the BMX bicycle was named after bicycle motocross and was designed to fit the needs of the rough-and-tumble dirt-racing pastime that took its toll on wheels and bicycles. The heavy-duty, one-piece cast-aluminum Mongoose Motomag wheel was soon born, and it was the first competition-ready BMX bicycle available. Skip Hess, while in Australia pursuing his motor sports passion, came into contact with a strange and unusual cat-size animal--the mongoose. Known for its passive nature while unprovoked, yet vicious and aggressive enough to kill a threatening Cobra twice its size, the Mongoose impressed Hess, who quickly registered the Mongoose trademark for his new bicycle racing frame. The Expert BMX bicycle model, which is still a cornerstone of the Mongoose BMX line today, was introduced in 1980. Shortly after, Mongoose captured the first ever ABA National #1 Cruiser Title. Previously known for the 20-inch bicycle, this title signaled the re-direction of Mongoose bicycles to larger-wheeled, adult-sized models. Several years later, Mongoose continues to dominate the cruiser racing circuit with six National No. 1 Cruiser titles, leading to the introduction of adult-sized Mongoose all-terrain bicycles (ATBs). In 1992, Mongoose pioneered the full-suspension market with the introduction of the Amplifier. This design is still the most-copied suspension design in the market. Several year later, Mongoose launched the Newman adult bicycle frame, which is proven to be 15% stronger than any other bike frame in the market. The design, while functionally sound, also raised eyebrows because of its distinctive look. In the next few years, Mongoose increased its marketing focus to dominate the bicycle industry, and more important, extend beyond it. The Mongoose brand marketing initiative makes more than 100 million impressions. Mongoose's brand awareness increased by over 130% in 1999 and solidifies the No. 2 market share position in units and dollars. Mongoose was acquired by Pacific Cycle, LLC, and continues to grow and prosper with more than 40 models of BMX, mountain, trail, freestyle, jumping, comfort, road, and cyclocross bikes. The perfect choice for a first bike, the Mongoose® Pizazz 16" girls' bicycle is designed to make kids fall in love with bicycles. It features training wheels and 5-star main wheels. A coaster brake gives kids control, and a rear caliper brake introduces them to hand braking systems. The knobby tires offer plenty of traction, and a curved top tube and pads on the stem help prevent injuries. |

Cannondale mountain bikes can be great fun but, like with any moving mechanical parts, they do still need some maintenance and lubrication. When you are preparing to go out for a run in the hills or the mountains, try to ensure the mountain bike is well lubed beforehand. Here are a few points to keep in mind when lubricating your Cannondale mountain bike:
- The chain: make sure you apply copious lube to the chain. Move the pedals backwards while applying the lubricant to the chain thus getting it into every part. Also do the chain rings and cranks.
- Front derailleur: lube the pivots on the front derailleur and use spot lube on all parts that move when you use the shift lever.
- Rear derailleur: again, ensure that all the pivot points are well lubed as you would the front.
- Some clipless type pedals require the release mechanism to be lubed but otherwise do not touch the release mechanism on the pedals.
- Anything at all that moves on the Cannondale mountain bike should be lubed thoroughly. This will keep things ticking over for quite some time to come and ensure a pleasantly smooth bike ride.
- Finally make sure to wipe everything down properly as this will reduce the amount of dirt that will stick while you are riding. When you wipe down you are in fact only leaving the lubricant in the parts that require it.
Mountain bikes will last a lot longer if properly lubed on a regular basis. This does not mean of course you should get carried away and splash the lubrication everywhere. Stick to the moveable parts and you will be just fine. Now get out there and enjoy the ride!
Lubrication of your Cannondale mountain bike and gun cabinets and safes tend not to go hand in hand but nevertheless, please visit my gun cabinets for sale website. There are many cabinets to choose from, not least the beautiful wood gun cabinets range.
Is racing BMX an expensive sport?
Racing BMX is a far more organised sport than its more impromptu ‘stunts and tricks' based cousin, freestyle BMX. It also has formal guidelines on aspects such as appropriate clothing and protective gear. For those looking to get into racing BMX however this does not however necessarily imply a high financial outlay.
Racing BMX involves riders competing against each other for speed over formally designated short distance race tracks. All race meetings are carried out under the authority of British Cycling. Although British Cycling lays down some guidelines for local BMX racing clubs to follow, these are not particularly onerous.
There is no particular BMX bike specification, for example, although there are certain stipulations such as the removal of chain guards and stunt pegs. In practice, however, most riders will be seeking to buy a specialist racing BMX bike: one that is sufficiently lightweight to enable the rider to rapidly pick up speed, yet robust enough to survive a BMX sprint and any possible falls or collisions. Provided the rider goes to a reputable BMX shop, however, he or she is still likely to find a reasonably cheap BMX racing bike from a top brand name.
Likewise, clothing and protective gear requirements are again restricted to the minimum for rider safety. These include a proper full-face protection helmet, reasonably protective full-length trousers and a hard-wearing long-sleeved top. Again, a reputable BMX shop will be able to offer cheap BMX protective gear suitable for any eventuality on the race track.
As riders become more successful there may also be an imperative to take with them some essential parts and tools for on-the-spot repairs. These however can also be relatively inexpensive. At bmx.co.uk we specialise in helping new riders get into racing BMX with a series of great value deals on a whole host of quality BMX products.

my chain on my bmx bike is all jacked up and wont go back on its all crooked hellppp?
how to i get my chain back right and how should it look.
I'd say the best bet is to go with a new chain, because it's not worth fixing the old one if it's gonna do that again. But the chain should go through the bottom of the upper double fork at the back of your bike and go under the double fork at the back of your bike.
