Different events would require different adventure racing equipment. There is some adventure racing equipment that you must have for personal purposes and others for team use. It's always better to know the event before entering; take all the information that you can on what to expect from the race - asking the organizers is the best way to go. Nevertheless, here is the top 10 list (in no particular order of importance) of the most important adventure racing equipment that your team would need to have to claim that 1st prize.
- First aid kit: Safety should always get top priority in adventure racing equipments. A team should have at least one kit even if you are the toughest bunch of adventure racers out there. Make sure that you get a kit that is designed specifically for adventure racing.
- Water containers: You would have to always keep yourself and your team hydrated. Water is very important and you should regularly take in small amounts of water. Make sure that you get the containers that are ergonomically designed, for ease and convenience of carrying around.
- Cooking stove, pots and utensils: A lot of times, adventure races can take 3-6 days to complete and so you would have to carry cooking equipment and cooking utensils. Food and proper nutrition during the adventure race is vital for a win because many times, teams try overdoing it by not eating. Not only is this not good for their health, but a lot of times they would just drop out on the 4th or 5th day due to excessive fatigue. A good team knows how to balance out work and rest.
- Tents or sleeping bags: It is best to carry those multi-purpose knapsack/sleeping bags because you would not have to carry two things at once, although you would have to rearrange everything back into position every morning. Try and get those weatherproof and lightweight sleeping bags for adventure racing.
- Mountain bike: Not all races provide bikes, so you would have to bring your own for those stages that require one.
- Mountain bike roof rack: You will have to place your bike somewhere when not in use.
- Support vehicle: The more challenging races would require a support crew with a support vehicle. In those races, there is absolutely no chance of winning without a supporting cast. Never overestimate your abilities and use every type of help you can find if it's allowed within the competition.
- Flashlights: Sometimes night navigation is required and needless to say, you would definitely need a flashlight or two. Better get the headlamps for convenience.
- Compass and map: You would reach nowhere near the finish line if you go the wrong way. Get at least one map and a map protector. Also, get a compass that is embedded on a wrist watch so that you would have your hands free at all times.
- Small items: Ropes, whistles, duct tape and Swiss knives are other very useful essentials to add to your adventure racing kit; you never know when you might need them.

Types of Bmx Biking Tricks
BMX Biking, which is similar to mountain biking, is a multi-faceted sport with many different disciplines. There are four major BMX concentrations – park, vertical, trails, and flatlands. They each have their own rules and specifics which will be outlined in this article.
Park riding is often done in standard skate parks, as BMX park riding takes a great amount of inspiration from skateboarding. Skate parks have all kinds of different obstacles and they can be made from wood, metal, or concrete, which makes them the perfect grounds for BMX riding as well. Depending on the type of obstacle, the rider’s style will change. Some of the most common obstacles one will see in a park include quarter pipes, spines, flat banks, walls, mini ramps, boxes, hips, and pyramids. All are used for different tricks, and in sanctioned competitions, the speed, skill, and fluidity of the trick is rated and judged to determine a points-based winner.
Vertical riding, which is commonly called by its slang variant, “vert,” is an extreme form of BMX. The standard ramp consists of two half pipes that have been joined to form what looks like an expanded “u” shape. The record for the biggest ramp is the 27-foot tall X-Games “big air” ramp. This is the most dangerous form of BMX racing, and there are very few professionals who go into this discipline, or stay at it for a very long time. Matt Hoffman, who is probably one of the best known BMX vertical riders, has nearly lost his life on several attempts to set new records for height and speed.
Trail riding involves dealing with huge mounds of dirt – formed by compacting mud – and is sometimes known as “dirty jumping.” In order to do this kind of riding, the biker will need a heavier, more reinforced bike, and it will usually only have rear brakes, as the terrain is very rough and hard on the rider. There are a lot of gaps in the mud and dirt that the rider has to deal with, with the gaps ranging anywhere from three feet to up to 20 feet. On average, the gaps are about 12 feet.
Flatland BMX is one of the least popular BMX sports. It is done on any simple flat surface, most commonly, concrete. The tricks involve balance and spinning tricks more than high jumps found in other types of BMX riding. The bikes are usually equipped with pegs that the bikers can stand on, enabling them to do even more diverse and strange tricks with their bikes. The bikes are often short and light, which enables the jumping and spinning type tricks that the bikers will be attempting. Some of the popular tricks include the bunnyhop, air, grinding, fakies, manuals, wallrides, endos, roll-backs, and catwalks.
As for grinding, the most common tricks include feeble, smith, double-peg, icepick, toothpick, crooked, and pedal grinds, though there are many other variations on the grind.
Air tricks include X-up, one handed riding, no handed riding, seat grabs, tire grabs, 180/360/540/720/900/1080 spins, backflips, frontflips, flairs, tabletops, lookbacks, barspins, can-cans, and many others.
As you can see, there are many different aspects to BMX biking. The most important thing, though, if you are interested in it, is to be careful, take your time, and have someone who knows what they are doing help you out when you’re getting started

What would be a good racing bike for BMX?
I'm trying to get into racing BMX and I'm curious on what are some of the better products to buy to build a bike.
And price really doesn't matter...
There are a lot of good bmx bikes out on the market. You did not mention how old you are, but if you are under 12 years old, weight is very critical. Many of the top mini bmx bikes come in under 15 lbs total. If you or your dad are mechanically inclined and cost is no object, you might want to build your own bike from the ground up starting with the frame. When my son raced, those who were really into the sport started with a titanium frame and titanium crankshaft and went from there. Once into the sport you will likely be practicing on the race course atl least once a week. Learn which gearing works best on your particular course. Learn how to stand on your pedals w/both feet while waiting for the gate to drop. Learn how to negotiate the jumps while landing on your back wheel. (I built jumps out of lumber so my son could practice in our front yard. I also built a starting gate so he could practice standing on the pedals and getting out of the gate cleanly and having a chance at that holeshot). My son dropped out of BMX at age 11 after competing in the NBA for four years. His best finish was 3rd place in a state tournament in Massachusetts while riding a Diamondback Mini(15 lbs). I still have his last bike (a Hutch Jr Racer @ 17lbs). If you get into the sport, you'll need to be a decent bike mechanic as things occasionally break. Being able to change a blown tire quickly should be a high priority. Note: stay away from department store or even sporting goods stores like Dick's or Sports Authority. You are not going to find what you need to be competitive. I bought my son's bikes through a high end bicycle shop and what they didn't stock they specialty ordered for me. You'll also have to purchase tools especially made to service bicycles which are readily available as much of the same tools used on BMX bikes are the same tools made to fix 12-speed bikes.
Good Luck
