Nail Cutting

Your ferrets' nails can be long and sharp especially if you don't cut them regularly. With longer nails, they can scratch off most your beloved furniture. Worse, your flawless skin might get scratches here and there when playing with them. Now, when you have decided to finally cut their nails, be careful. It must be done with special scissors which are sharp enough for quick cutting. Make sure that you don't cut the inner part of the nail (which is already connected to the blood vein) because this can lead to bleeding. You don't want to hurt your ferret, do you?

Temperature

Place the ferret's cage in a well-ventilated room, away from direct sunlight. It is good to know that temperature of above 30C degrees can be dangerous to your ferret's health. A ferret does not sweat and it has thick fur. It would be better to use cold wet towels rather than a ventilator. The latter won't help much because it will only shift the warm air. Direct cold air and a full cold bath are not also advisable.

Skin and Coat Care

If a ferret's coat is healthy and shiny, these are signs of a balanced diet. While diet is important, it is good to have a few drops of Linatone, Ferretone or a similar product to avoid dry coat or skin condition. If symptoms persist, though, it's best that you pay your vet a visit to check for any diseases.

Brushing the Teeth

You don't need a specialized toothbrush for this. A simple soft toothbrush would suffice. Gently open his mouth and brush the teeth. This will let the ferret think that you're just feeding him. Aside from brushing the teeth, another way to protect them would be by feeding your pet food that is clean and high in fiber. Fibers can help in the natural cleansing of its teeth.

Hidden Dangers

Though you want your ferret to enjoy playtime, be careful of the toys you give. Also be aware of the things that can be randomly found in your house which your ferret can reach easily. Stuff such as foam, rubber, soft rubber, couch stuffing, sponge and Styrofoam are just but few of the things which your ferret can mistaken for food or toy. House plants can pose danger to ferrets, as well. As harmless as they may be, some plants can be poisonous. So, keep these plants on places that the ferret can't easily reach.

Cage Setup

With cages, make sure that they're big enough for the ferret. If you have more than one ferret, the cage should be larger to provide enough space for playtime. Provide the necessary accessories such as litter pans, bedding and blankets, linoleum/small carpet pieces for the floor, and water bottle. Do not forget to change the food and water in the cage at least thrice a day to avoid making your ferrets sick due to unsanitary conditions.

Getting A Great Cage For Your Ferret

You're planning on adopting a ferret and looking forward to having this energetic and inquisitive creature running around your house, but have you though about what kind of cage to get him?

You might be thinking that your ferret will be out and about, what does he need a cage for? The fact is that ferrets can get into a lot of trouble and it just isn't safe to let your pet ferret run around your home unsupervised. When you are home and can rescue him from any sticky situation he might get into, it's fine to let your pet out and he will certainly keep you entertained with his antics, but when you aren't home the safest place for him is in his cage so you want to be sure to get him one that he will enjoy being in.

There's many different size cages for ferrets and several that offer different amenities. First and foremost, you want to be sure that the cage you pick out for your ferret is safe. It should be made of metal with bars small enough so that he can't squeeze out or get his head caught. It should also have solid floors, or a plastic liner that you can put down on the bottom.

Make sure your pets cage is big enough for him to move around in. Ideally, you would want to get him one with different platforms and that is large enough to house enough toys so that he will not get bored when you are not home to entertain him. Make sure that there is enough room for a litter box, food and water dishes and a bed. The cage should be at least 2 feet square, but the bigger the better.

Don't try to house your ferret in a glass aquarium - those work for hamsters but your ferret needs breathable space around him. Also make sure there are no sharp edges that he could get cut on. When it comes to food and water dishes, ferrets can make a mess so you might want to go with a water bottle or at least get a very heavy bowl that he cannot tip over.

If you really want to get your ferret a luxury cage, then there are plenty to choose from. You can get multi level cages with platforms and tubes that your ferret can scamper in and out of. You can even buy cages that start out as a basic 1 level cage and then buy add on levels when you feel like your pet needs more play space or as your ferret family grows.

You should have your cage selected and in place before you bring your ferret home. Try to buy the biggest and best quality cage you can. Plan for the future because ferrets are addicting and you might find yourself adopting a second little critter so you might want to have a cage big enough to accomodate both of them right from the start.

How to use hose clamps for mounting water bottle cage?

My bike does not have braze-ons. So, my only option to mount water bottle cage is to use hose clamps. However, I am not able to figure out how to use these hose clamps for mounting the bottle cage? Any help is appreciated. If you have pictures, that will be very useful.
What makes a cage as suitable for clamps? How/Where do I find one?

First you'd need a bottle cage that can be fitted using clamps, many of them need to be bolted to the brazed on lugs.
If you have a suitable cage, then you need two clamps that are big enough to go round the frame and bottle cage.
Once you have everything, it's just a matter of unscrewing the clamps, fit them round the frame, and tighten them up to hold the cage in place.

If they are metal clamps, it might be worth wrapping some insulating tape around the frame first to avoid marking the paint.

How to be pig crazy
It is a common phenomenon that many guinea pig lovers who want to keep a pure breed of the lovely rodent end up keeping a fake one. This mistake keeps occurring as long as guinea pig devotees have no basic knowledge of this tiny pet.
