Imagine you have just bought a brand new Honda CBR Fireblade, it's your baby and you treasure it more than any of your other possessions. The last thing you want is for something to go wrong and to find yourself searching Google for Honda motorcycle parts, Honda motorcycle spares or even Honda motorcycle dealers within a year of purchasing your bike.
This is something that can easily happen though if you do not properly maintain and look after your bike. So many new motorcycle owners forget the simple steps which they should take daily to look after their new motorcycle. This is a list of three simple daily checks which will prolong the life of your treasured motorcycle and ensure that it is a long time before you have to spend money on repairs.
The first is to check oil levels. Checking the oil level on a bike is very simple, either your bike will have a traditional dip-stick just like on a car or an oil inspection window. Oil is something that should not be decreasing in volume too regularly and if you find that the oil level in your bike is dropping rapidly it could indicate a couple of problems. Your bike could have a simple oil leak or it could have engine problems. An engine in good condition will not use very much oil between changes. Remember that your bike should be level to the ground when you are checking the oil so that the oil can stabilise and be measured accurately.
The second check is the motorcycles brakes. This is a very important check for both the maintenance of the bike and the rider's safety. Break checks are simple to do, just apply the brakes and ensure that they are fully applied without the lever or pedal being fully applied. Also the breaks should free up fully without any drag once the lever or pedal is released. Once this check has been made you should check the brake fluid level and if it is low replace it immediately. If your brake fluid continues to drop or your brakes do not appear to be working properly take your bike to a mechanic or the deal you purchased it from before riding it again.
The third and final check to do before taking your bike out each day is making sure the drive chain is in good condition. The drive chain should be well lubricated and should not be too slack looking. This is a major component on the motorcycle and it is vital that it is kept in good condition. If the chain looks a little dry the spray it with some aerosol chain lubricant and if it appears slack either adjust the tension yourself or pay a professional to do so.
By following these simple daily checks you will ensure firstly that your bike is safe to ride but also that your bikes performance will be optimal.

Mountain Biking and Proper Clothing
Mountain biking in cold weather has always been a challenge. The problem is that you'll start out cold then warm up and break a sweat, making yourself wet. Then, when you travel downhill, the combination of wet skin and windchill will be quite chilling.
Below, you'll find a list of the cold weather clothing that will make winter riding less of a bone chilling experience.
Booties
In cold temperatures, your feet are the most vulnerable part of your anatomy. Pressure from pedaling will tend to cut off the circulation to your toes, which can put you at a risk of frostbite. In cold conditions, neoprene booties are a must have. They will zip over your shoes and even have a pattern in the sole where you can cut out a piece for cleats.
Gloves
There are several manufacturers that make "lobster gloves", a hybrid glove that separates your index finger and thumb from the rest of your hand. These gloves are warmer than regular gloves, and the distinct index finger will allow you to operate your shifting and brake levers.
In case your hands get cold, you should carry a pair of lightweight glove liners will you as well. If you have to stop to take care of a problem, the liners will protect your hands from the cold.
Glasses
Glasses that wraparound and provide maximum protection from the wind are best to wear in the winter. You can protect yourself from debris, as well as the cold.
Socks
You should wear heavy socks although not to heavy. A sock that is overly heavy will make your shoes tight, cut off circulation, even make your feet cold. You should try lightweight socks, as they will keep your feet warm without bulk. If you need an extra layer, try silk ski socks as they are very warm and also extra lightweight.
Underwear
Polypropylene is the best material here, as it is lightweight and best for colder temperatures.
Wind Protection
Moving air is the biggest cause for losing body heat. By having good wind protection you'll be able to vent perspiration while also protecting yourself from windchill. You should choose pants and a jacket based on durability, breathing, and price as these types of clothing can get very experience.
Helmet and Liners
Your head is very important, as you lose 50% of your body heat through your head. A helmet is designed to keep you cool in the summer, not warm in the winter. A fleece liner inside your helmet will keep your head and ears warm during winter riding.

Bike handlebars and brake levers question.?
So I've recently rid myself of gears and have a single speed trial bike. now that i don't need the brake levers with shifters on them, i want to get some new, simple 2 finger levers, nothing too fancy.
I've found some on amazon for only $10, but will they fit the handlebars? Do all bike handlebars come in around the same diameter? I think these are bmx levers, but i want to use them for my mountain bike. Would they fit?
there is usually a little to play with when it comes to levers. if the levers are too big you could cut a strip of old innertube to wrap around the handlebars to give them something to grip to.
