An average mountain bike has several additional features compared to a regular bicycle. These include larger number of gears, knobby tires, a wider handle bar and often some form of suspension for the tires. A mountain bike skeleton is called a chassis, a term that refers to the frame, fork and suspension as one unit. A chassis is generally constructed using lightweight materials such as carbon fiber.
These bikes are often equipped with a large number of gears, with some models being equipped with as many as 27 gears. The lower range of gears helps mountain bikers climb steep hills or obstacles. Mountain bikes use sprocket technology that makes changing gears easier, and shift levers that automatically move up or down, one gear at a time.
A mountain bike usually has both a front and a rear suspension. The suspension acts as a shock absorber for both the rider and the bike. Based on the type of suspension, mountain bikes can be classified into three main categories: Hardtail (frame with no rear suspension, often has a front suspension fork), Fully Rigid (sub-type of hardtail, with a rigid fork) and Dual or Full suspension (front suspension fork and rear suspension integrated into the frame).
Some mountain bikes may also be fitted with bar ends on the handlebars, especially in the case of flat straight handles bars. However, with an increasing preference for riser handlebars, bar end extensions are being used in smaller numbers. These bikes are commonly available with a wheel size of 26 inches (660 mm). Recently, larger wheel sizes of 29 inches (737 mm) have also been introduced. The larger wheels usually roll better over obstacles, but they reduce the maneuverability of the bike.
While a variation of the cantilever brakes is found on most mountain bikes, some of these, especially those with suspension systems, have disc brakes. With a large choice in parts available for mountain bikes, it is important to research your requirements, before shopping around to get the best prices.

Handlebars-Make your rides comfortable and safe even on mountain
Bicycle riders love their bicycle and really worried about the safety of their bicycle but in order to choose the wrong handlebar ends up tampering or damaging the bar tube of a bicycle. Even along with a rigid handlebar they are able to get more steering ability for their bicycle, which is handy when cycling on not only roads but on mountainous or rocky terrain too. Usually choosing a bicycle handlebar can be hard especially when confronted by a smorgasbord of options. But anyway, now you can start off biking with a handlebar that fits well and is of the correct length. Taking care of your bicycle will ensure that it lasts for as long as possible and stays as safe as possible. When it comes to your safety, you need to check all the parts of your bicycle regularly for any wear and tear.
Basically the handlebars of a mountain bicycles are flat, usually as wide as the rider’s shoulders. However, depending on the rider’s preference it could be narrower or wider. Indeed the handlebar is attached to the steering tube by the STEM. The stem comes in different lengths, depending on how high up you'd like the handlebars to be. Riser bars are fast becoming popular as it looks attractive and gives the riders a more upright position. You can add bar ends to the handlebars, which will allow more hand positions and give more comfort to the rider. While selecting a bicycle for mountain riding one of the trade offs for the durability is the fact that they do not have the speed of a simple road bicycle.
For a bicycle rider a perfect bicycle which has the feature that allow him to have the upright seat and handlebars along with the more speed than the typical mountain bicycle. Perfect handlebars can give you a far more comfortable riding position while riding the bicycle on mountain not only this it is can makes them popular with people who suffer from back problems, and want to ride a bike purely for the exercise of it.
Selecting the bicycle with proper handlebars are a good choice for the city riding as it can offer the durability, speed and comfort along with pleasant bicycle riding even on mountain as well. Even more, replacing the handlebar of your bicycle is also a simple process that you can do yourself easily without having any inconvenience. Infact in normal circumstances when the bolts are in good condition, it should take you less then 15 minutes to remove the old handlebar stem and to replace the new one.
So don’t take the bicycle having wrong handlebar it will indulge you in trouble. Choose the bicycle with perfect handlebars and make your ride safe even on mountain.

is it worth it to get carbon handlebars?
im basically building a whole new bike for XC racing this year. i was looking at getting a carbon riser bar. are they worth getting? how likely are they to crack? what do you recommend for under $100?
i was looking at the answer protaper carbon riser shown here:

or possibly the easton monkeylite SL carbon riser, if i can afford it:

I've been running carbon bars since 1998 - I've got a carbon bar on my Remedy66 and my FX Crossmuter has an EC90 Flatbar on it - sooo comfy, and they don't get COLD in the harshest winter!
Answer = JUNK
Easton = Lifetime Warranty
Hmm... That's easy!
But, seriously, it makes a HUGE difference on the longer rides and takes a LOT of "Oomph" out of the hits.
Follow the munufactures torque specs and use only a two bolt faced stem and you'll love it!
And go 31.8 it's the current interface size.
Gulf left gasping for air from spill’s many toxins
The state's Dept. of Health and Hospitals on July 19 said 290 spill-related medical cases had been reported to date. Of those, 216 were workers doing oil-cleanup duty or manning oil rigs, and 74 were people taken ill on shore.
