Amazon.com Bicycle Buying Guide Finding the Right Bike To really enjoy cycling, it's important to find a bicycle that works for you. Here are some things to keep in mind when you're in the market for a new bike: The Right Ride In general, bikes are broken down into three major categories: Road and Racing Bikes--As a general rule, road and racing are built for speed and longer distances on paved surfaces. Thinner tires, lightweight 29-inch (700c) wheels, and drop bars that allow for a more aerodynamic position are the norm. Most road bikes, regardless of price, offer many gears for tackling both hilly and flat terrain. Mountain Bikes--With their larger tires, hill-friendly gearing, and upright position, mountain bikes are very popular for all types of riding, both on pavement and off. Mountain bikes that are designed specifically for rugged trail use typically feature a suspension fork. Some may have rear suspension, as well. A quick change of the tires on any mountain bike--even one that you use regularly on trails--adds to its versatility and makes it a worthy street machine. Comfort/Cruiser Bikes--For tooling around on bike paths, light trails, or for cruising a quiet beach-side lane, comfort/cruiser bikes are the ticket. With a super-relaxed riding position, padded seats, and limited or no gearing, these bikes are made for enjoying the scenery and having fun with the family. The Right Price A bike's price boils down to three essentials: frame materials, bike weight, and component quality and durability. Entry-level--You'll find a wide range of comfort and cruiser bikes in this category, as well as some lower-end mountain bikes and road bikes. Most will have steel frames and components that are designed to last for several years with frequent use. Mid-range--Bikes in this range may feature a lighter aluminum frame with mid-range components that keep performing after miles of use. If you're looking for a quality bike that is relatively lightweight and will stand up to abuse, this is the "sweet spot." Most serious commuter and touring bikes fall into this category, as do mid-range mountain bikes with a decent front suspension. High-end--Racers and serious enthusiasts who expect lightweight, high-performance components will want to stick to this category. For road bikes, exotic frame materials (carbon fiber, titanium) and ultralightweight components can add thousands to the price tag. Mountain bikes in this class often feature advanced front and rear suspension technology, as well as components designed to handle lots of rugged trail action. The Right Size Fit is crucial for comfort, control, and proper power and endurance on a bike. Here are some basic bike fit tips: Stand-over Height--To find out if a bike's overall height fits your body, measure your inseam. Next, determine how much clearance you'll need between your crotch and the top tube of the bike. For a mountain bike, you'll want three to five inches of clearance. A road bike should offer between one and two inches of clearance, while a commuter bike should have two to four inches. Compare the stand-over height for a given bike to your measurements (inseam + clearance) to determine the right bike height. Top Tube Length--You can measure your torso to get a good estimate of proper top tube length. First, make a fist and extend your arm. Measure from the center of your fist to the end of your collarbone (the part that intersects your shoulder). Next, measure your torso by placing a book against your crotch with the spine facing up. Measure from the spine to the bottom of your throat (the spot between your collarbones). Finally, add the two measurements (arm length + torso length), divide the number in half, and subtract six inches. This is your approximate top tube length. Compare this number to a bike's posted top tube length. You can allow for about two inches longer or shorter, as most bikes can be adjusted via stem length/height and saddle fore/aft position to make fine adjustments to the fit. Bikes for Women--Proportionally, women tend to have a shorter torso and longer legs than men. Bike makers design women's bikes that offer a shorter top tube and many comfort/cruiser bikes built for women may also provide more stand-over clearance. The Right Accessories When you make a bike purchase, don't forget these crucial add-ons: Helmet (this is a must!) Seat pack Lock Hydration pack, or water bottle and bottle cage Spare tubes Portable bike pump Gloves The Denali PRO Road Bike from GMC delivers higher performance at a lower price. At the heart of the Denali PRO, youll find a high quality, hand-crafted lightweight aluminum frame for a stiff, responsive ride. The 16 speed drivetrain is equipped with integrated Brake/Shift levers so that you can brake and shift without moving your hands from the handlebar. Dual pivot alloy brakes ensure that you stop on a dime, while lightweight 700c aluminum rims further enhance the dynamic feel of this outstanding bicycle. This attractive road bike offers safety, security and power in one, lightweight package. |

Today more than ever before we are aware of the harm that our modern day lifestyles do to the environment. From driving huge petrol guzzling cars to flying all round the world or just by not recycling enough. We all know the impact we have and we are all aware of our carbon footprint. For some reason though many of us still drive huge cars that cause a massive amount of harm to the environment when there are other options. Many people think the obvious answer is to use public transport but even public transport has its down sides which doesn't make it an attractive idea for many people.
The train for example is quite expensive and on many routes you only get 1 or 2 trains and hour. These trains are often full and if you are travelling in the rush hour then you may have to stand. You could also take the bus but these to have down sides. The bus while being cheaper than the train and more frequent are much slower and only go to very specific places. With both of these methods you will find they are no good for anyone who works nights which is another negative point. What is needed is a third option. An option that is not as damaging on the environment while giving you the freedom that the bus and train doesn't. The answer to this is a moped.
Mopeds don't have to be powerful or expensive. A cheap moped such as a 50cc moped will only set you back a few hundred pounds. You may be thinking that actually this is still a few hundred pounds more but once you own one you will no longer be filling up your petrol guzzling car which will save you money every time you ride it. If you were using public transport then you are saving on the price of a ticket. This will no doubt be cheaper on a moped than on a train for example.
The benefits are very simple. A 50cc moped will give you the freedom to travel to work when you choose to. For example if you work nights when there are no trains of buses. You will find that it can save you time as it not only stops at various stops like public transport does but it also can overtake cars that are in traffic jams. At the same time it does not impact on the environment in anyway near what a car does. You can still take your lunch and other bits with you with no problems. Most mopeds can take about 250 pounds in weight upwards. A nice cheap moped could be the best buy you will ever make. The environmental impact, the monetary saving and the added freedom make it not only a good choice but the only choice that actually makes sense.
And as if that wasn't enough if you put in cheap mopeds of 50cc mopeds into a search engine you will find online stores that will offer you an amazing range of makes and models in a wide selection of colours so even the most fashion conscious of us can still find one that looks cool. They even deliver so there is simple no excuse. Go on you know you want to.

Cannondale 700- Your Complete Review
If you are in the market for a new Cannondale 700, you may want to know that it has several emanations, each with its own features that sets it apart from the rest. Take a look at how each is welcomed by users to help you in deciding which one would fit your cycling needs.
1. Cannondale Raven 700- this beauty’s favourite trail is the South Kettle, it is light with a low stand over disc brake ready and perfect for quick steering. A very good platform to start and it comes in a hot blue hue.
2. Cannondale Multisport 700- Some of the many strengths of this bike is its CAAD5 tubing, tri specific geometry, aero carbon fiber fork, and shock absorbing seats. It is a great bike if you are looking to join a triathlon or any major cycling event because of its durability.
3. Cannondale Jekyll 700- This bike has an adjustable geometry which is perfect for all kinds of biking. It is also considered as one of the most versatile mountain bikes available in the market today. The suspension on this bike would make you feel like Evel Knievel.
4. Cannondale Super V 700 SX- This boy has great fork, and has a rock solid performance when it comes to speed. It can certainly get the job done on single track but you have to watch out for some mechanical flaws which may require you to upgrade for better results on the road.
5. Cannondale Road Warrior 700 HeadShock- This bad boy is great for commuting through almost impassable roads but you may want to change the pedals it comes with to achieve better biking results.

Who makes or sells aftermarket aluminum road forks?
I have a carbon fork but it's not practical for where I ride bc of uneven payment, etc. I want the durability and light weight of aluminum but I'm having a hard time finding a company that makes or sells an aluminum road fork w/a 1" inch steerer. My wheels are 700c and I have caliper-style brakes.
I've found one company, Leader. I'd like to see who else makes/sells them to compare prices, features, etc.
To start with, I hate alum forks - crappy ride, jarring in my experience. They are harder to find now. But how about looking at a CF cross fork? It would be better than any alum fork and could certainly handle your riding needs. Here's one in either 1 or 1 1/8:
