The Team Professional is a classic Brooks saddle created with the needs of the sporting cyclist in mind. This model has been in production for half a century, originating from the old B17 Competition. This saddle is a pleasingly simple design, which truly deserves the description 'timeless classic'. The title Team Professional is embossed on either side just above a precisely hand skived stripe along the side edges, where a little of the glossy leather top surface is removed to reveal the texture and lighter tone of the suede beneath. Large headed copper rivets are hammered by hand, providing the finishing touch. A ladies version is also available, designated the Team Professional S. Both ladies and gents Team Pro saddles are manufactured with traditional chromium plated steel rails, or with copper plated steel rails. Have you ever taken the time to look around you and see just how many people are wearing jeans? I did the other Saturday at a sports presentation and of the people I could see around me over 75% of adults had jeans on and I am not just talking men either, just as many women were wearing jeans. I was amazed. I knew they were popular but just how popular did surprise me.
Levi Strauss Jeans History
Men have been wearing blue jeans for well over a hundred and fifty years, being first made in the 1850's! Initially they were made as work trousers and then progressed to be part of the work wear for the US Army. The earlier styles were loose cut and were often in the 'overall' style with bib front. In fact men's denims were called "overalls" until 1960.
Levi Strauss was selling blue jeans under the "Levi's®" brand to the mining communities in the 1850's. In the 1870's the introduction of copper rivets to reinforce points of strain, especially on the pockets, became a standard fitting with Levi® jeans. However, in 1937 the back pockets were sewn so that they covered the rivet because of complaints that rivets scratched furniture and saddles. In 1966 rivets were removed from the back pockets, and bar tacking was used instead. Although rivets have become a popular fashion statement at different times over the years.
The popularity of jeans kept growing with men wearing them away from work as well, and in the 1950's teenagers started wearing them following the James Dean movie, Rebel Without a Cause, although they were more often worn by the rebellious youth and were not accepted as general casual wear until the 1960's-1970's. Boys called their denims "jeans" in the 1950's but the men did not refer to them as "jeans" until the 1960's when advertising and packaging used this word for their description.
And as they say "the rest is history" as jeans have become a clothing item in huge demand worldwide and I would defy you to go shopping anywhere in the western world and not see dozens of pairs of jeans being worn.
The Market Today
