Michelin Pro 3 Race Tire List Price: $0.00 |
|
When you're buying a new bike, two factors lord over all others: Weight savings and ride quality. Weight is easy to measure, and doing a dollar-per-gram-saved analysis is simple. Ride quality, though, is more of a mystery. The longer we're in the bike industry, the more we know that one person's 'magic carpet ride' is another person's jackhammer. It's rare to find unanimity in how a bike rides -- is too stiff? too soft? New debates start daily here, and they end not because of measurable evidence, but out of exhaustion.Few items can guarantee an improvement in ride quality, but this is indisputably one of them. The Michelin Pro 3 Race in 25c width is identical in every way to our standard 23cm width, except for the fact that it's a fraction wider. More width means more overall volume to the tire. And more volume translates into more shock absorption. When you absolutely, positively need to mellow out the ride quality of your bike, the surefire solution is to install 25c's. Some folks try to buy a better ride quality by dropping $4k on a new frame or $1k on a new set of wheels. Our suggestion? At $120 you can get exactly what you crave.Just like the 23c version of the Pro 3 Race, the 25c has a Silica Energy rubber compound made in a "dual co-extrusion", which along with its 127tpi casing makes it feel as fast as it really is. One added standout quality of the Pro 3 Race is its flat resistance. On the one hand you get their newly-redesigned "High Density Puncture Protection" to resist glass, staples, and other road garbage. But you also get sidewalls that have a proven track record of blowout-resistance.Product FeaturesType: clincherMaterial: dual-compound rubberSize: 700 c x 23 mmBead: foldingFoldable: yesWeight: 200 gRecommended Use: training, racingManufacturer Warranty: |

Micargi manufactures everything from freestyles bikes to beach cruisers. The China based company operates an office and warehouse in the United States. Micargi bikes are manufactured within ISO standards. On the more affordable end, prices for women's cruiser bikes from this maker range from the low 100s to mid-300s, though pricing competition tends to knock that down a bit. If you go for a lower priced seller, make sure they operate their own warehouse and shipping. The quality controls can be beneficial. Lots of people go into the drop-ship business with cruisers and other kinds of bikes with no assurance of quality or customer service to speak of.
Felt is a highly respected name in the bicycle and fitness supplies industry. Their women's cruiser bikes are popular according to online reviews, and they sure look cool. They're pricier, but you get a lot of "mileage" out of these gorgeously designed cruisers that are lightweight and provide the best in function and form. You get top brake hubs, tires, aluminum frame, saddle and more. It's worth it to shop around for a good deal on these, but expect to pay what they're worth. Again, look for a reliable dealer and not just a guy processing drop ship orders from his apartment.
Firmstrong is a hopeful name for a bike... but seriously, this is a nice lower mid-priced cruiser with classic appeal. Built to be high-performance and low-maintenance, this bike will get you there in safety and style...and with dual-coil spring seats, cruising is pretty comfy.
Manhattan is a beach cruiser you'll want to take along on road trips simply because it's so incredibly charming. If you are all about vintage style and retro splash, this may be for you. Look to pay in the mid to upper 300 for the Deluxe that comes with a 6-speed gear, traditional ladies' frame, retro chainguard (neat-o!) and silver anodized alloy rims that help you show off just enough. Just want to say here that this manufacturer totally makes the most of a great opportunity: Why even build a beach cruiser if you aren't going to give it some panache? Nice work, Manhattan.
Torker is another company that is all about excellent design that performs. Get your 3-speed cruiser or what they call the Boardwalk Step-Thru and plan on super comfortable cruising along the shore. Very pretty too and priced at mid-range.
A few other manufacturers to look for are Greenline, Phat Cycles, and Sun. Features to pay attention to, whether you go the Felt or the Torker route, are the seat, shocks, rims, frame, pedals, frame-length, tire size, and, of course, color! Finally, if it hasn't been said enough already in this article: look for a dealer you can trust. Once you have your bike, you'll want a person on the other end of the phone who is interested in keeping your business and building a good rep. Call around to speak with dealers if you're shopping online and even if you plan to save by buying off the Web, it can't hurt to take a test drive at a dealership near you. Happy cruising.

What exactly causes the blistering on motorcycle tires after a hard run?
I have seen the blistering on the tires of my bikes before but only after an exspecially hard run with buddies. In the past I have always used Michilan tires (first sports, then powers, after that the dual compound powers) and recently I got a set of donlop qualifiers (they were cheaper and I was told by buddies that I was wasting money on the Michelines). Since I got the Donlops the front tire seems to often blister after a joy ride down my favorite road at only a "brisk" pace and both tires always blister after some fun with the boys on thier bikes. My question are what exactly causes it and do the donlops blister more often because they are lower quality or is it just ok since I have never had any noticably traction problems?
If I remember right, the reason they blister is from heat opening the pores of the polymer (rubber compound) and letting oxygen in between the pores. This usually happens on Formula 1 tires that are too soft of a compound or after they get too hot during use. If I remember right, the Dunlop Qualifiers are a fairly soft compound that won't last very long and is better for track use and not the street (probably why your friends said you were wasting your money).
