Kevin Bacon is a Wall Street wunderkind fired after losing his golden touch. Reduced to working as a bicycle messenger, he learns lessons in humility and concern for others, especially his fellow gofers, who are threatened by merciless pushers. With Jami Gertz, Paul Rodriguez. 106 min. Standard; Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital stereo, French Dolby Digital stereo; Subtitles: English, French, Japanese; theatrical trailers. A hotshot stockbroker bets it all--and loses it all--in one day, effectively ruining all his customers while ending his career. So, naturally, he turns to that old stockbroker standby: he becomes a bicycle messenger. Kevin Bacon may have made this film simply to extend the strands of the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon game; it's hard to imagine any other reason. Otherwise, this mid-'80s film stands as yet another example of a movie influenced by MTV without understanding what MTV does. Eventually, Bacon leads the exploited masses of messengers in an uprising against unfair labor practices by the evil bosses. There's an original concept. Notable as yet another film to give a role to the dazzlingly untalented Jami Gertz. --Marshall Fine |

When bicycles were first introduced they were considered to be a recreational toy. However, retailers and message services quickly realized the value of bicycles as a delivery vehicle. Bikes were quicker than traveling by foot, and less expensive and easier to maneuver than horses were. These qualities made them ideal for delivering packages and important messages in large cities.
The first courier bicycles were used by the Paris Stock Exchange in 1870. However, the American company, Western Union, quickly adopted bicycles into their New York City delivery fleet. Bicycles were gradually added to message delivery and package delivery services in other major cities throughout the world. Today, bikes are still a popular vehicle for in-city package and message delivery services.
If you are interested in buying an antique courier bicycle then you need to know what to look for before you start spending money. The first thing that you will want to look for is an old bike that has a single fixed gear. This is a good sign that the bike was designed for a courier service. Next you will want to look for evidence that the bike was owned by a courier service. Look especially for painted company names, company logo stickers and serial numbers that you can use to authenticate the bike with.
When shopping for an antique courier bike you also want collect the story behind the bike. Sometimes this story can be just as valuable as the bike itself. If you are buying the bike from the original owner or from a family member of the bike's owner, then you need to ask them for the story behind the bike. Ask if there are photos of the bike being used, if there are letters or written information on the bike and if they have any family stories they are willing to share. This information and supplemental materials can add value to the bike if you are able to acquire them.
Bicycles have been used for delivery vehicles almost since they first came on the market. If you are interested in antique bicycles then you will want to learn more about antique courier bicycles. While German motorcycles and automobiles have flooded the American market, there is little evidence of antique German bicycles. Find out what antique German bikes are available for collection. Rideable antique bicycle replicas are the easiest way to add a little touch of nostalgia and charm to your bike collection or biking hobby. These replicas look and operate like the originals, but they are made with modern materials.
Motorized Bicycle-New Generation Go Green Product
Motorized bicycles are one of the best ways to inhale some fresh air, go green and reduce air pollution.
A motorized bicycle consists of a drive system that can be incorporated easily and without much difficulty onto a bicycle in a manner that enable the bicycle to pedal in a relaxed mode without increasing force required to pedal the bicycle. The motorized bicycle consists of a wheel on which a drive gear is mounted, which in turn is linked to the drive gear, and a drive device attached to the driven gear. The drive device comprise a motor designed to rotate an output shaft, a rotatable drive shaft, a first drive device connecting the output shaft to the drive shaft, and a second drive tool detachably linking the drive shaft to the driven gear. The second drive device is activated by rotation of the drive shaft by the first drive tool. The drive system is mounted on a support that is adjustable and mounted on the bicycle's structure.
Early designs typically consist of chain or gear technologies which were driven by a motor and which were in permanent contact with the bicycle's drive sprocket along with the pedals. While these motorized driving technologies did supply a secondary power to a bicycle, they have their own disadvantages as well. Like, the motor and its drive system were generally in direct contact with the pedals all the times, which need the rider to drive the motor during pedaling. The use of the motor importantly enhanced the power required to pedal the bicycle. In addition, the drive technologies of these early motorized bicycles were tough to incorporate into existing bicycles as they need complicated driving facilities which required wide-spanning modifications of the bicycles onto which they were fixed. As a result, these technologies could not be used on multi-speed bicycles.
If you are planning to purchase a motorized bicycle, there are many alternatives and restrictions to take care of. Find out the restrictions prevalent in your state. The laws on riding motorized bicycles vary significantly from one state to another. You can check out for an electric or gas motor. Frankly speaking, quality gas motors are more expensive and exclusive and needs to be repaired frequently but will take you faster and farther whereas electric motors are cheaper and require less maintenance but reach out shorter distances at lower speeds. You should also decide on whether to buy a kit to incorporate a motor to an existing bicycle or just buy the fully built motorized bicycles.
Now where can you find such product! If you live in or close to a metropolitan city, you may find a dealer in any of the showrooms. Check with local bicycle and scooter dealers to find out if they possess what you are looking for. If you are unable to find anything in your close vicinity, do not give up. The Internet is flooded with manufacturers of both kits and pre-built motorized bicycles. If you are not a typical nerd, seek a second opinion on your selected bicycle or kit before buying.

In Montreal's tracks
As London's cycle hire scheme starts, we try out the bikes in the city where they were designed – and discover what Montrealers have learnt about getting the best out of their system "Bixi bikes are for short hops, not days out." This was the advice I was given about Montreal's hugely popular bike share scheme on my first day in the city. It came from André Giroux, who was clearly keen to make ...
