Perhaps the most essential investment you will ever make when planning to take on the adventurous trails of mountain slopes is buying a mountain bike which is a completely distinguished bike whose make answers the several requirements of bikers on winding trails and uneven roads. The bike is obviously subjected to a lot of pressure on the tracks so if you come across knobby and wide tires for your mountain bike consider it as normal because they allow for good shock absorption and added traction for the rough scaling ahead. Make a wise choice so far as selecting your mountain bike tires is concerned. It will stand you in good stead over the years.
Lately, more and more bikers are applying front as well as rear suspension today in their mountain bikes and it is a common sight to see even the front wheel suspension on almost every mountain bike. There are many bikes that includes bar ends on the handlebars, and riser handlebars are also well accepted. The circumference of the wheels on these mountain bikes is just a little bit more than 2 feet and it is also usual to see larger wheels too.
Broadly speaking, there are four different types of mountain bikes that come with fully rigid, soft and hard trail, dual or full suspension. The fully rigid bikes come with a frame with a rigid fork and a fixed rear without suspension. The hard tail also does not include a rear suspension but a front suspension to compensate. The soft tail includes a frame with limited rear suspension and is activated with the aid of flex of the frame rather than pivots. The dual or full suspension bikes have a rear suspension and front suspension fork; the rear wheels are moved by pivots.
Typically, the design of the bike is informed by the nature of the terrain it must ply on, and there are a variety to pick from, like 4-cross racing (4X), mountain cross, single speed, dirt jumping - street and urban, trial, downhill (DH), freeride (FR), endure/all mountains (AM), cross country (XC), and north shore usage.
With the sport gaining ground among more and more people, mountain biking is emerging as a mainstream activity and the styles more aggressive with frames of newer designs, lighter, stronger with a better ability to cross over obstacles than previous models. The mountain bikes that are available nowadays come in a variety of speeds like 21, 24, 27 together with three gears in the front while perhaps 7, 8 and 9 gears on the back wheel.

Why Buy A Fixed Gear 700C Bicycle?
A bicycle is a very personal choice. The style, color, and design are aesthetically indicative of the rider's tastes and style. The bike needs to be the right size to be comfortable and safe for the rider who is purchasing it. Once these considerations are taken into account, there are still a multitude bikes from which to choose. To make an appropriate choice, a rider needs to determine why he/she is buying a bicycle. Is the bike for the purpose of long, cross country bicycle trips, or will the rider be in the mountains, fording streams and jumping ditches? Different bikes are ideal for different situations.
Assess Your Goals
If you are taking your bicycle on a cross country trip, you will want a bike with multiple gears to be able to maneuver various road and weather conditions, which cannot necessarily be predicted from the beginning of the trip.
Mountain biking will require a heavy, durable frame and wide tires, and possibly a variety of gears, to face all of the challenges that will arise in the woods or in the mountains.
If you are seeking a bicycle simply for your commutes to work or school, and riding on errands around your home, and the terrain is relatively even and predictable, the a fixed gear 700C bicycle could be the ideal choice, with its simple construction, durable frame, and stylish design.
Features
A fixed gear 700C bike has only one gear. There are no variable speeds, and the bike does not coast. If the pedals stop turning, the wheels also stop turning. Road racers often train on fixed gear bicycles because it is believed that pedaling one will improve pedaling techniques.
Fixed gear 700C bicycles are constructed of aluminum and steel alloys, making them extremely lightweight, ideal for maneuvering around potholes and typical urban challenges. It also makes the bicycle ideal for work commutes, especially if you need to carry the bike into your office, or up or down steps.
Steel alloy is a strong, durable material, that requires little maintenance, and offers reliability and longevity. The materials are resistant to the elements and therefore require less repair in the long run. If the bike does need repair, and you prefer to complete your own maintenance, the lightweight quality of the bike makes repairs easy. The parts used to build fixed gear 700C bikes are manufactured by reputed manufacturers, such as Shimano and Artek, so quality parts are easily available for replacement if necessary.
Purchasing a Fixed Gear 700C Bicycle
Fixed gear 700C bikes are available in multiple designs and colors, with variable features, like round or straight handlebars, pedals with or without toe clips, and slightly different bicycle frames. They can be ordered at various sites on line, with some assembly required. The bike will be partially assembled, with the exception of the seat, front wheel, handlebars, and pedals. Fixed gear 700C bicycles range in price from $300 to 700, but sale prices are available.

change my mountain bike into a bmx?
i know the question sounds stupid but the gears on my bike are hanging of like the shifter thing on the back not the cogs or the shifter on the handlebars. the bikes a few years old and has a few problems so i dont want to pay to get it fixed at the shop.
so i was thinking could i just take the cogs off put a 1 speed cog on with the chain so it would have no gears
can this be done any tips??
You could do it, but it wouldn't work out well. The mountain bike frame is larger than a BMX frame and needs larger tires. The larger the tires, the more force needed to move it forward. That's why there are multiple gears to begin with. You could try putting BMX-specific tires on the frame but they may be too small and the frame would all but brush the ground.
Bottom line, not worth the hassle.
