Have you ever wondered what it feels like to cycle in a tandem bicycle? These are bicycles that allow two persons to sit and cycle together, one at the front and another at the rear. Usually, the front person, called the captain will do the turning and determine the tandem bicycle direction. The back person is called the stoker.
Why you should ride tandems
Tandem bicycles are a popular bike type for couples. You no longer have to worry about cycling too fast and leaving someone behind.
Another benefit from riding the tandem is the rear cyclist gets to enjoy the view! While the front person might have to keep watch of road conditions, the rear person is free. All he or she needs to do is keep pedaling.
The person at the back could also keep useful rations like food and water in the bag. This is due to their free hands.
Although you might think that a tandem is tad too long, other vehicle users will often be friendly to you. Riding a tandem bicycle is rare and people do not always get the chance to see one.
Getting started on the saddle
Usually, the captain (front person) needs to be more experienced. When starting out, the captain has to sit first and apply the brakes (to keep the bike stationary). At the same time, the stoker has to get on the bike. Then, the two cyclists must work together when initiating the tandem bicycle to move forward. It takes teamwork.
Steering
When turning, the stoker needs to lean in the turning direction, along with the captain. Otherwise, this could cause an imbalance and the bike being unstable. The captain also has to warn the stoker at the back for any income holes or bumps too.
Road biking
Think of the tandem bicycle as a road bike. They are the same. Usually, tandem bicycles are much faster than a single road bike. Why is that? This is because there are 2 persons pedaling the bicycle, which gives it twice its power. Â
Mountain biking
Is this possible? Yes. Even if the tandem bicycle's length might be worrying, it will be fine as long as you plan your way through the trails and hills. A tandem bicycle is also more stable due to its length and weight.
Especially when riding downhill, the bike will always stay straight. It is far less likely to crash if compared with a single mountain bike. Braking hard at the front will not make the tandem jerk forward at all.
Riding uphill is also a plus point. There is more traction because of the extra weight, not to mention dual-engine cyclists!
You should check out some mountain tandem bikes in the store. Some manufacturers have made them just for this purpose. They even have suspension system and disc brakes.
Riding tandems can be fun. Now you should read about mens biking shorts. Besides that, be sure to know how to buy cycling shorts
Cheap Bikes For Sale
Bikes, as we all know it, are fun. They will always be fun, and that is the reason why they never go out of style. A certain car will lose its appeal to many customers, but that will never happen to a bike. Bikes are always going to be here for us, no matter what. Who knows? With all these oil price hike issues, bikes are all that is going to be left to us as a mode of transportation. So why not cash in on it now, and buy a bike? Not only are you helping the environment, but you are helping yourself as well. Think of all the cardiovascular exercises you will be getting from bike riding.
Different Bikes and Its Cost
There are a lot of bikes that you can choose from - from utility bikes to cruiser bikes and from tandems to folding models. Because of its many varieties, when you are choosing the kind of bike you want, choose it because it is what you need, not because it caught your fancy.
Good bikes cost a lot of money. It might be cheaper than your regular car, but it does not mean that what it will cost you next to nothing. No. Excellent-quality bikes cost money, and it will cost you about a thousand bucks. If you feel this is too much for you, then you can start looking for cheap bikes.
Where to Look for Cheap Bikes?
You can find a lot of these cheap bikes that are for sale in the Internet. When you go to an auction site, like eBay, for example, you can type in cheap bikes, and you will be given a list to choose from. Be careful though when you buy your cheap bikes in the auction sites as there are some fraudulent sites that will only take your money. The best way to check an auction site is to read forums and reviews about it. If you buy online though, you also have to ask your seller about his return policy. What you see in the picture might not always be what you will be getting, so you have to make sure about that.
Secondhand bikes are cheap bikes, and you can also check it out. There are a lot of newspaper ads selling secondhand and cheap bikes. If the owner of the bike is near your area, you can simply visit the seller yourself and check the bike over. You should check for any rusts or corrosions. This is a good way of knowing if the cheap bike is still in good running condition. If the bike is relatively rust-free, then it means that the seller is taking good care of it, which is a good buy.
But if you want to buy a cheap brand-new bike in a store, then you have to know that the cheap bike you are trying to purchase is just that - a cheap bike. A cheap bike has low-quality materials, that is why they are a lot cheaper than quality bikes. Who is to say that it will not fall apart on you when you are riding it or your child when he is playing with it?
So the best way to buy a cheap bike is to look at secondhand yet quality bikes. You are assured of its quality, and you bought it at a cheaper price than it originally was.

Would MTB brakes fit on a fixie or SS?
Hey.
I was wondering if mountain bike brakes would fit on a fixie?
I think I would only need front brakes. But if they do fit, I might put both.
Thank you.
Most fixed gear bikes use side pull caliper brakes. The v-brakes or disc brakes used on mountain bikes won't fit
