The 3-wheeled Trikke cambering vehicle is made with an aircraft grade aluminum frame, optimally articulated to provide exceptional sturdiness, great user control at any speed, and phenomenal stability that far surpasses the traditional human powered recreational vehicles like scooters, skateboards, inline skates, and even bicycles. Despite its innovative design, that is not a guarantee of safety. Accidents can and will still happen if you're not paying attention to some basic safety guidelines. These helpful tips for Trikke safety will help minimize accidents and prevent setbacks that will keep you from fully enjoying your Trikke scooter.

The Safety Do's:

1. Always wear sports safety gear. A minimum requirement for riding any fast moving vehicle (including your Trikke scooter) is an industry-approved well-fitting helmet that can cushion your head from possible devastating impact when accidentally thrown from the vehicle. Elbow and kneepads are likewise highly recommended and especially advantageous for children and Trikke beginners to protect their delicate skin and joints.

2. Always be sure to inspect your Trikke scooter prior to getting on and riding. Go through this checklist every time: Tighten all screws. Make sure that the handlebar quick release and folding mechanisms are tightly locked in place, and give the dual rear brakes a quick squeeze to insure they are functioning properly. For Trikke models with the rubber air tires, check that the tires are properly inflated with the correct pressure, i.e., 80psi in the rear tires and 75 in the front.

If you are already Trikke-ing along, and you suspect that something's not working right, immediately stop and re-evaluate. Twisting of the brake cables around the steering column is a common problem which will cause your Trikke scooter to feel sluggish.

3. For beginners, it is recommended that you start your Trikke lesson on a low handlebar setting. This will allow more weight to settle on the Trikke's front wheel and improve maneuvering, and of course, it will be more fun for you, starting out. Once you're confident in handling your Trikke scooter, you can start experimenting with different heights of the handlebars until you achieve the position that allows for a more optimal carving experience. Remember to start slowly, and master one technique before moving on to a more complicated one.

4. Initially, try to restrict your route to existing bike paths or skating lanes when Trikke-ing. Always be mindful of your proximity to nearby pedestrians and other vehicles, especially cars. Be sure to obey all traffic rules when you feel confident enough to ride your Trikke scooter on a busy street. And don't forget your helmet!

5. Make sure to stop frequently to drink plenty of liquids. Dehydration can set in when you least expect it. And we all, as humans, tend towards being dehydrated, anyway. Trikke has a water bottle and cage that mounts nicely on the front steering column.

6. Children should always have adult supervision when riding their Trikke scooter.

Hope that helps...

Ride Cool with Your Chopped Bike

The latest rage is not a mountain bike with a new set of gears, or a road bike made of lighter material, but rather lowrider bikes - low seats, high handlebars, and lots and lots of chrome.

As the world around us continues to become more and more complicated, even our toys become more complicated - for example our mountain bikes are more complicated than ever with dozens of gears and choices between hard tails and soft tails and having to decide between disc brakes or v-brakes.

In such an atmosphere, it's not surprising that the "retro-look" is back. Well, actually the retro-look never goes out of style, it just lies dormant for a decade or so before coming back. There really is nothing new under the sun.

Today, lowriders and chopper bicycles are resurging in popularity. They are certainly not for riding cross-country or downhill, but for riding on pavement or across soft beach sand, they are wonderful.

It's more than just the high handlebars, generous seats, and fat tires that provide a comfortable ride, it's the ability to express one's individual tastes by decorating their bikes. These bikes have become fashion statements among the youths of the major urban areas of the country.

Chopper bikes first appeared in California in the early 1960s. They were built by kids, who wanted to copy the then-popular customized motorcycles called choppers. Why chopped? Because the bikes had been "chopped" - put together from several different bikes.

The most distinctive feature of the chopper bike is its handlebars... also called ape hangers, which extend high above the head of the rider. The seat or saddle, meanwhile is situated even lower than normal, and the pedals are pushed far forward.

The design of the chopper doesn't stop there, of course. Enthusiasts pile on all the accessories they can think of, from chrome to gold to fake fur, from special paint jobs to sound systems.

If you're mechanically inclined, you can put together your own chopper bike out of bits and pieces of others, but if you'd just like the look without all that fuss, there are chopper bike shops out there who can provide you with the bike, and all the accessories you need to customize it to your satisfaction.

The frame

Just like beach cruisers, you might think that these choppers with all their accoutrements would weigh you down, but that's not the case as everything is made from space age materials for lightness. However, they typically only come with one gear, so riding up hills can be a bit of a chore.

But that's not what these bikes are for. They're for riding around the neighborhood, impressing friends, and indulging one's creativity.

Outstanding in a Class of One - Can-Am Spyder - Review
The Can-Am Spyder is a three-wheel something that is not quite a motorcycle, not quite a trike — and certainly not a car.
