To run properly an automotive engine must have an adequate supply of fuel at all times. And as well, this available fuel - be it gas or diesel, must be as thoroughly clean and free of contaminants as possible.
As it passes through your car or trucks' fuel system your motors' lifeblood - its fuel must be as clean as possible. If dirt or any other foreign particles or contaminants are present, then the system could clog up, causing engine performance to suffer greatly.
To prevent this possibility, and as well maintain economical levels of engine performance, car makers have installed fuel filters in your autos' fuel system.
To keep the fuel systems clean, these filters must be replaced according to the manufacturers' recommendations, or more often than not engine performance suffers and declines. To most motorists reliability is another very important reason to schedule fuel filter replacements. Who needs to be stalled by the highway or road caused by a clogged fuel filter, when a simple replacement of this automotive component could have been done in a snap.
A dirty fuel filter can cause an engine to sluggish, during acceleration or at high speeds. It can also become so clogged that the engine will not run at all.
Basically it can say that all vehicles use some form of fuel filter. Indeed in World War 2 it was the side which had the "Jerry can" - a gas storage container that had a built in filter to remove sand and particulate matter that was light years ahead in terms of reliability of gas engines during battle as well as on roads. To determine the exact location of the fuel filter or filters in your vehicle refer to your owners' manual that came with your brand new vehicle, check online at the auto makers' website, or ask your local service writer at your auto dealership or your local mechanic.
On most new vehicles - which will have fuel injection rather than the older style carburetors, the fuel filter is located under the car or truck nearby the fuel tank itself.
The filter may be either an in line or screw on design.
Older and vintage cars that predate newer fuel injection systems used a simple fuel delivery device called a "carburetor". In cases of carburetors some use a small filter element mounted inside a fitting where the fuel line connects to the carburetor. Others use a filter that screws into the carburetor itself. Another of what was at the time a popular setup was the in-line filter that was located somewhere in the fuel line between the fuel pump and carburetor. This type of filter is easy to identify because it looks like a small plastic or metal canister connected to the fuel line with two short lengths of rubber hose and clamps. In the case of some more exotic "imported cars", a third hose may be connected to the filter to route vapors back to the fuel tank itself.
Lastly diesel equipped cars or small trucks normally have a filter housing located somewhere in the engine compartment. The housing can generally be simply screwed open and the filter easily replaced with a name branded filter from the auto maker themselves or a reliable third party brand. Many of these filters also serve as water traps, and the filter housing contains a small drain, that allows you to periodically drain water from the housing.
Regardless of the type of automobile you drive - car or truck, gasoline or diesel engine your vehicles fuel pump filters demand and deserve your scheduled and ongoing care and attention. The Combination Wet And Dry Vacuum Cleaner
The wet/dry vacuum cleaner combination is no longer just for a workshop. Over the years, the driving technology has improved a great deal, deceasing the loud screeching noises that the vacuums were so very well known for.
When you go out to buy a wet/dry vacuum with both wet and dry features, you'll need to know some of the details. The vacuums are available in a variety of different sizes and HP, ranging from 6 - 22 gallons and 1.5 - 10.5 HP. The capacity of the wet/dry vacuum should match your needs in the following ways:
1. Wall mount vacuum cleaners with 1.5 HP and a 1 gallon tank are available for quick and easy cleanup jobs, such as spills. You can also hang this type on the wall as well, which will keep it out of your way.
2. The six gallon vacuum cleaners are ideal for smaller jobs and are easy to maneuver and store than a larger model. Keep in mind however, that the smaller wet/dry cleaners are much louder and also more prone to tipping over. The smaller the tank, the more often you will have to stop and empty it.
3. Higher capacity models are recommended if you have a workshop or garage where larger spills occur. A large capacity tank will decrease the number of times that you have to empty the tank.
When you looking for the best wet/dry vacuum for you, you should look for the following options and features: - The pleated cartridge filter. It is reusable and rinseable, and provides more filtration area than the flat filter and it doesn't need to be removed when you switch from the dry to wet vacuum function.
- An automatic shut off device is available with most newer vacuum cleaners. This mechanism will shut off the motor automatically once the tank has become full of water, which will prevent it from overflowing.
- A wide set of wheels will help to prevent the vacuum from tipping over.
- There are some of the larger models that have the ability to convert to a leaf blower, which is great if you have a lot of trees in your yard.
- Some wet/dry models have a built in pump attachment as well. This type of attachment will allow the water to be pumped through a garden hose that attaches to the vacuum.
- A handy drain valve or sprout will make emptying the vacuum cleaner a snap. If it doesn't have this feature, you'll have to remove the lid and tip the vacuum to the side to empty all of the water. Depending on how much water you have in the tank, you could easily and accidentally spill it on the floor. The smaller types of wet/dry vacuums normally don't have a spout or drain option.
- Wider hoses and floor nozzles are great to have as well. The wider the hose and nozzle are, the less likely the vacuum will be to clog up on you.
If they aren't provided with the vacuum you decided on, you can also purchase the following attachments:
1. Crevice tool - this handy tool will easily get in tight corners and around floor edges.
2. Extension wand - this will make the hose longer for hard to reach areas.
3. Hose couplings - this will join the extension wand to the hose.
4. Combination nozzle - this helps to alleviate the need of switching nozzles before you switch functions.
5. Gulper nozzle - this tool is ideal for the wet vacuum function.
6. Round brush - this nifty little tool is ideal for scrubbing.
7. Cleaning kit - this kit will include everything you need to clean delicate upholstery and other areas as well.

Pool Solar Covers / Reels / and Hot Boxes???
I moved into a house with a 24 foot above ground pool. I just purchased a solar cover and hate taking the thing off on and off every time I want to use it. I do have a reel but would need to purchase the strap kit to attach it to the cover. I worry about this because 24 feet is long distance to extend the reel...I will really bend with the cover wrapped around it.
My other thought was to cut the cover in half and only have to put one side on at a time. What are your thoughts on removal of the cover?
Finally, he former owner used heavy hose attached to the filter and ran it throught the gutters of his roof. The water filtered through the hose, which was being heated by the sun, and back into the pool. Is this bad for the pump...because it would have to pump the water through all those tubes. I think it works like a hotbox? Any thoughts on this?

My parents have a 24' above ground pool, I am the one who set it up and cared for it for about 4 years. The solar cover we had the same problem my mother had a hard time rolling it up it was heavy, just not for her. A couple of years ago we dragged home approx. 300 feet of black hose. we attached the hose as it came out of the filter and ran it up on the roof of the house, the other end of the hose went back into the retun line. we put valves on the hose to regulate the amout of water and to be able to turn it off at night when it was cool outside. This process works very well, this summer when we opened the pool the water was around 64 degrees the first day, within a week the water was around 90 degrees. The pump has been working fine and I believe it puts no extra stress on it. The pool is warm and it works very well. hope this helps, any other questions email me at jessejo69@yahoo.com
