If you haven't visited Savannah before, you will soon find that the city does indeed stand by its nickname: "Hostess City Of The South". Savannah will be in your memory for years to come, and is a city that should be on your list of places to visit in your life time. What makes the city so attractive is the deep history that it has. So begin this Savannah Vacation Review article I will tell you a little bit about the history of this historic city! If your lucky enough, you may even get to stay in a Savannah hotel along the historic district!
Historic Savannah
Internationally known are Savannah's history and architecture, as is character for hospitality & Southern charm. Annually, the city attracts hordes of tourists from across the USA and around the globe. Savannah's historic downtown area is one of the biggest National Historic Landmark Districts in the USA.
One of the lovely historical presents the city offers to us are the legendary "Garden Like" Squares. Savannah's historic district has 21 squares. The squares vary in size and originality, from the playgrounds of the smallest, Crawford, to the formal fountain and monuments of the largest, Johnson. Elbert, Ellis, and Liberty Squares are called the "lost squares," because they were annihilated in the course of urban development in the 1950s. Liberty & Elbert Squares were paved over to make way for a the restructuring of highway 17, while Ellis Square was destroyed to build the parking garage for City Market. Different efforts are now in place to bring all three squares back to life. Ellis Square has been restored by the city as well as the City Market parking garage. Ellis Square is scheduled to be complete at the end of 2009. Across from downtown and surround by the river you will find The Savannah International Trade & Convention Center on Hutchinson Island. The island is connected with the mainland by the Belles Ferry, as does the Eugene Talmadge Memorial Bridge which you will find to look sort of out of place as it reminds you of something that should be in a more fast passed town like New York city.
One of the main attractions of Savannah is famous River Street which is full of restaurants, shops, arts & crafts. You also find some of the freshest seafood Savannah has to offer right there on river street as well as some of the best restaurants in the area including Irish Pubs, & New Orleans style restaurants. And don't forget, if you have never tried the famous "Low-Country-Boil"! Or the buttery She Crab Stew, be sure to taste some before the trip ends as your taste buds will be in for a treat! The location of the city is also conveniently near the coastal islands! Savannah Beach, now known as "Tybee Island" is home to the Tybee Island Light Station. Other story book towns adjacent to the city include the shrimping village of Thunderbolt and two areas that started as summer resort communities for Savannahians: Beaulieu and Vernonburg. Savannah is home to a number of historic houses, cemeteries, forts, & historic houses, & The Savannah Civic Center which hosts 900 events each year! This beautiful city has a lot to offer!
Rooming for Your Savannah Vacation
There are several options for you to choose from among the Savannah area hotels. If you will be flying in and want to stay right outside the city, then you can stay in one of the Savannah airport hotels. If you are looking for somewhere a little more thrifty there are also Savannah hotel deals to be found. If your taste is a little more expensive then you will have your share of Savannah luxury hotels. Or you may like a more home like environment that caters to your every need in a hospitable way then you might enjoy a bed and breakfast Savannah style stay. But note that there a plenty of hotels in the area that offer deals if that's what you are looking for.
If you really want to be by the shops and restaurants then, you can stay right in one of Savannah's hotels in the historic district. If you like convenience, then you will want to stay in a hotel right on the river itself. Seminar Offers Tips On Saving Money With Green Office Design
Property professionals looking to gain a technological edge in the race to create the environmentally friendly workplace of the future will be able to get tips from green office design company, Morgan Lovell.
A seminar exploring the latest technological innovations for energy reduction and their subsequent cost savings is being hosted by Morgan Lovell in September. Morgan Lovell's sustainability manager, Sophie Hutchinson, will discuss technology designed to reduce energy in key areas such as heating, ventilation, cooling and lighting which could save companies up to 30 per cent of their energy bills.
The Green Intelligent Office takes place on Wednesday, 15 September, 2010, between 8.15am and 10.30am, at Morgan Lovell, Noel Street, London.
Delegates will also get the opportunity to hear a live case study from LV=. Richard Bowden-Smith from their property and facilities team will demonstrate the results they have achieved following the installation of the Workplace Footprint Tracker, technology that collects and displays a building's energy use to identify where savings can be made.
The seminar also offers property managers and other attendees a chance to tour the office refurbishment of Morgan Lovell's Noel Street headquarters, which scored a BREEAM excellent rating as well as winning both a Green Apple and BIFM Award.
