The hub--an affordable and reliable version of the multi-speed hubs growing in popularity at the time--caught the attention of the industry. So much so that by 1965, Yoshizo Shimano--the youngest son of the company founder in Japan--opened an office in New York. Shimano's goal was to get quicker product feedback and to provide technical and warranty assistance to retailers selling bikes equipped with Shimano parts. Though Shimano American has grown from that first modest office staffed by only three people to a full distribution center with sales and marketing offices, its goals are the same: listen to customers and meet their needs for both bicycle and fishing products. |

Mountain bike accessories are a must have if you regularly ride your bike. Every bike rider, regardless of experience, should at the very least acquire the basic safety gear like a helmet, glasses and shoes.
Buying bike accessories can be overwhelming but thankfully online shopping makes the process easier. You can read reviews and compare prices, rather than pay ridiculous prices in stores.
Let's look at some of the absolute basic yet vital mountain biking accessories every rider should own.
Mountain Bike Shoes
You may think you can wear your regular running shoes to ride a bike, and sure you can. However if you are riding for long periods of time then you'll want to consider special riding shoes which have a better fit and of course are made for the shape of bike pedals. These specialist shoes can reduce and eliminate foot cramping and discomfort when riding.
Mountain Bike Helmet
A helmet is the first piece of safety equipment you should buy when you purchase a bike. You should never ride a bike without a helmet as it can literally save your life if you fall of your mountain bike. Helmets these days are lightweight, comfortable and not big and bulky as they used to be. They are also quite inexpensive and come in a wide variety of colors and styles.
Eye Protection
It is not advisable to ride a bike without some sort of eye protection, preferable specialist riding sunglasses. Ensure you have a strap on the glasses so they do not fall off. If you wear prescription glasses then you are able to obtain sunglasses with your prescription lenses; speak to your optometrist for details. The risk of not wearing protective glasses is significant: it is common for small particles of glass, dirt and other debris to fly up off the ground and if lodged in your eye, can cause blindness.
Other accessories you should consider are riding gloves which lessen handle bar discomfort and of course a basic bike repair kit which will assist you in getting out of trouble. Repair kits should include a multi-tool and tire puncture kit.
Safety is one aspect that you should not skim on. Make sure you buy quality safety gear and once you are more experienced and your budget allows, you can delve into some of the more luxury and fun mountain bike accessories.

Kinds Of Mountain Bikes
A bicycle is a human-powered that consists of two wheels and is driven by the pedals attached to its frame. A mountain bike (also known as MTB) is a bicycle designed and created for off-road terrains and other uneven trails. Armed with the proper mountain bike helmet, these bikes were built to withstand the unpredictable structure and layout of nature. There are also different types of mountain bikes that perform best under various riding paths. With the right mountain bike clothing and the right bike, the riding experience is sure to be a good one. Here are some of the types of mountain bikes:
Cross country – This is probably the most famous and widely-used mountain bike there is. They were produced for all types of terrain. This is made possible by a full range of mtb gears and the fact that it’s the lightest bike available.
Downhill – These bikes are created with huge drops and hits on a downhill slope. They offer a full suspension but a limited number of gears. They perform best going down and are not the best choice for uphill slopes for any length of time. This type of bike is the heaviest bike available but is durable and sturdy nonetheless. This type of bike is also the most expensive amongst all.
Free-ride – This bike is a combination of the two bikes mentioned above. It has the advantages of a cross-country bike but has a somewhat sturdier and heavier frame. It has a full suspension and full mountain bike gears as well.
Dirt-jumping – This bike is exactly what its name says. These bikes are designed exclusively for jumps. They only have a number of gears but have front suspensions that help with the jumps. Because of this, these bikes will not do well with any other mountain biking styles.
Trial – These bikes are a revision of the cross country mountain bike but have softer suspensions for more difficult obstacles. Because of the suspension feature, pedaling requires a little more effort.
