Breeders are always looking for the perfect combination of qualities that make a show winning dog. It can take years of trial and error to achieve the right mix and once they have it, breeders want to produce as many of these animals as possible. Often, breeders resort to inbreeding in an attempt to speed up the process or make continuing it easier. For instance, a female dog with a desired trait is bred and produces a litter of five puppies. Only one of the puppies, a male, also has the desired trait. After the male reaches maturity, the breeder may mate the mother with her male offspring to produce a litter, all of which have the trait. Though this technique can be effective in accomplishing what it is designed to do, it can lead to serious problems in the puppies and their offspring. For this reason, inbreeding is illegal in many jurisdictions.
Many of the problems we see in some breeds have arisen because of years of inbreeding. Problems caused by inbreeding include arthritis, heart problems, hip dysplasia and even cancer. Certain breeds of dogs have been inbred to such an extent that they are in danger of becoming extinct. The pit bull terrier has been inbred to such an extent that their future existence is uncertain.
Just as inbreeding can lead to the continuance of a desired trait, it also perpetuates non desirable traits. Out of 30,000 genes that dogs are made up of, approximately 400 of those genes contain genetic problems. As the inbreeding continues down the line, these negative traits become much more likely to show up. Such problems as blindness, mental problems, organ failure and deafness are common in inbred lineages.
As can be demonstrated by the condition of hip dysplasia, the only way to eliminate the condition is by carefully controlling the lineages of the bred animals. Only lines that are unrelated and that have demonstrated several generations without dysplasia
If you are considering acquiring a pure blooded dog, it is vital that you research the dog's lineage as far back as possible. Dogs with the greatest diversity in their gene pool will be the healthiest and least likely to suffer genetically caused problems. If a breeder is hesitant to reveal the history you should be suspicious and probably should find another breeder. If you are unsure of what to look for, there are many sources online that can advise you of common problems suffered by different breeds. Armed with this information you will be better able to recognize the conditions in the mother and father, if you can see them. It will also allow you to specifically question breeders and even add provisions into purchase contracts.

Enjoy The Great American Race With A Pit Stop In Orlando!
While most sporting events save their best for last, NASCAR does things a little differently…instead choosing to run their biggest, richest and most prestigious race as the first race of each new season.
The Daytona 500 truly is the Great American Race, featuring 43 of the world’s best stock car drivers taking 200 laps around on the famed 2.5 mile tri-oval at Daytona International Speedway. http://www.daytonainternationalspeedway.com/
Now more than 50 years after the inaugural Daytona 500 back on February 22, 1959, the event remains NASCAR’s most focal event.
That first 500 mile Daytona race was referred to as the "500-Mile International Sweepstakes" and offered the 59-car field a posted award amount of $67,760.
A crowd of 41,000 was in attendance to witness the beginning of what is now the biggest racing event on the calendar in Daytona. That race came right down to the wire, so close that the winner was too close to call. Johnny Beauchamp went to Victory Lane and soaked up the winner’s adoration although the results were posted as Unofficial. Then, 61-hours later, Lee Petty was declared the official winner thanks to a clip of newsreel footage that proved Petty to be the winner by a few scant feet.
Today, the Daytona 500 is the “Super Bowl” of racing, posting multi-million dollar awards with the winner garnering $1.5 million or more. Yet it is the prestige of winning at Daytona that keeps NASCAR’s best drivers coming back year after year. Each year, the Daytona 500 winning car is put on display inside the Daytona 500 Experience – the official attraction of NASCAR – for race fans to view and photograph. And the winning driver is forever immortalized with hand prints, a right foot print and an autograph in cement at the Daytona 500 Champions Walk of Fame.
Much like the first race, the Daytona 500 continues to carve out a history of exciting finishes. The 2007 race saw Kevin Harvick nipping Mark Martin at the finish line by a mere .020 seconds to win the closest Daytona 500 since the advent of computer scoring in 1993.
Of course, the race is only one of the focal points of any trip to Daytona and Central Florida. Over the past decade, Daytona 500 Experience, formally known as DAYTONA USA, "The Official At the traction of NASCAR," has been delivering magical motorsports memories to both hard-core race fans and casual observers through an exciting variety of hands-on activities, challenging thrills and one-of-a-kind sights.
When visiting Daytona, it only makes sense to make a pit stop in nearby Orlando, FL where you’ll find an endless array of equally exciting thrills at the Walt Disney World® Resort, SeaWorld® Orlando and Universal Studios® Resort.
From high flying roller coasters to hundreds of other rides and attractions, Orlando remains the theme park capital of the world.

How could NASCAR be made more interesting?
I have some ideas:
-no more pace car, all cars must start from a stop like in track & field
-you get points for hitting other cars, this ultimately will affect your final standings (ie someone who places first may lose to someone who places tenth but hits way more cars)
-you can only pit once, and they don't stop the entire race when someone pits
-figure 8 tracks with dangerous intersections in the middle
-super high speed tracks
-super low speed tracks, like tracks that are super narrow and go along the edge of a cliff or something
-jumps
-longer races, like 12 hours...or really short races, like 5 minutes
-no cautions/no stopping the race
-race in rain & snow
Anyone have any more ideas/thoughts on mine?
every other lap should be run in counter-rotation
qualifying runs should be done blindfolded
drivers must consume mass quantities of sponsrs products during driver introduction
publish the rulebook online (no way naZKar will EVER permit that!!!) see the emperor has no clothes, wizard of oz, etc.
have the national anthems of every participant and spectator played before the race starts
at the end of each race let the fans drive the cars around the track until somebody dies then burn everything
Local resident looks forward to the future
Relocating is never easy, but Arnita Grose is looking forward to her upcoming move. Although she loves everything about the Valley, Washington, D.C., has something she loves even more: her fiancé, Robert Kirby.
