With the excitement of trying a new saddle don't overlook the chance to increase the joy of that first ride. Take a moment before you remove your current saddle and follow these easy steps to drastically reduce setup time.
Tools you will need:
o Allen Key set
o Measuring tape
o Level
o Pencil and paper
Steps:
1. With your measuring tape take the following two measurements and write them down.
a. Seat Height - from the center of the bottom bracket to the top of the saddle (follow the seat tube up)
b. Reach - from the tip of the saddle nose to the center of your handle bar (follow the top tube)
2. Proceed to remove your current saddle from your seat post. With it removed place the new saddle on the seat post, level it and tighten the bolts until the saddle will remain in a neutral position but is still movable.
3. The two measurements you took earlier are now needed.
a. Start with the reach, duplicate the same reach measurement you had earlier. This will involve sliding the saddle fore and aft. If your new saddle is longer or shorter than your previous saddle take this into consideration on the new set up. For example: if your new saddle is 2cm longer - start by splitting the difference and reduce your reach measurement by 1cm. With the reach set, tighten the seat post so the saddle will not move.
b. For the seat height, measure from the center of the bottom bracket to the top of the saddle and compare to the measurement taken earlier. If an adjustment needs to be made, loosen the seat post clamp and raise or lower your seat post to get the desired seat height then tighten the seat post clamp.
4. Now you're set for your first ride. Be sure to bring your Allen key set with you on your next few rides to make minor adjustments.

Flatland Bikers Are Perfectionists
Flatland Bikers are very particular about what types of parts they use for their bicycles. They normally practice long hours and look for parts and spares that suit their needs.
There are many tricks that flatland bikers like performing including various balancing and spinning maneuvers in unexpected positions. At the beginning riders used to perform one trick at a time, but then the tricks got interlinked together creating a sort of dance on a bicycle. Flatland bikes typically have a shorter wheel base than most other bikes that are used for freestyle riding. It is easier to balance and make the bike spin on one wheel with a shorter wheel base.
Some of the other features found on flatland bikes include four pegs that are situated on the end of each wheel axle to help the biker to balance. The pegs are bolted to both sides of the front and back axles and are usually made of aluminum or plastic. . Flatland bikes also normally have either a front brake, front and rear brake or no brakes at all, depending on the bikers style choice. Flatland bikes are very similar to BMX bikes, but the frames are geometrical. The flatland bikes have bolt on pegs at the front and rear, a rear brake cable gyro to allow the bars to rotate forever without the brake cables getting all tangled and a compression bolt which is hollow on the forks for the front brake cable.
A rear hub mechanism which is better known in cycling circles as a free coaster was also invented especially for flatland bikes. This allows the back wheel to roll backwards without engaging the hub and allowing the cranks to rotate backwards as they normally would on a normal bicycle. Other differences on flatland bikes include no offset forks, high pressure tyres, narrow handle bars and very small front sprockets.
Flatland bike enthusiasts are forever looking for quality parts that will improve the performance of their bikes. Other parts that can be bought separately for a flatland bike include chains, cranks, forks, frames, grips, headsets, hubs, pedals, pegs, rims, seat clamps, seat posts, sprockets, stems, tyres, handle bars, bar ends, brakes, brake levers, spokes and tubes. Flatland bikers are always working to perfect their skills. Most of the flatland bikers practice for hours each day to get their tricks perfect. It makes a lot of sense that they would be fussy with their choice of spares for their bicycles.

Quick BMX bike question?
On my Eastern Lowdown , the seat post doesn't have a clamp and its just in there and i can't seem to move it or anything. I want to get a new seat post but how would I get this one out and would a new one fit without a seat post clamp?
Loosen everything clamping the seat post. Turn bike upside down and stand on seat . pull bike off seat post. If that doesnt work try drilling a hole through the post and place a thick nail or screw driver through the hole then hammer it out.
