There are many things that you need to know to get ready specifically for any criterium race day to guarantee optimum performance.
The most important thing you need to know the day of your criterium cycling race is the start time because based on this you can time when to eat before the race, when to warm-up and when to start getting close to the start/finish line to get a good race start position.
When getting ready for a criterium race day you need to eat 2-3 hours before the race so that you can race on an empty stomach. This is better because your diaphragm has more room to function during the respiration process, allowing you to fill your lungs with oxygen to 100% capacity, helping your heart to send more oxygenated blood to your muscles while racing. Also, racing on an empty stomach allows you to send more oxygenated blood to your legs rather than to the digestion process of your food.
Another important thing to time is your warm-up before the race. You need to warm-up for at least 30-45 minutes on your bike trainer or bike roller until 20 minutes before your start time so this way you get your circulatory system dilated in preparation for the high intensity that a criterium demands. Your arteries that deliver blood to your legs need to be stretched out to the maximum in order to match the high blood volume that the heart will start pumping to your legs once the race starts.
And last but not least, you need to start getting close to the start/finish line 10 minutes before the start time, so that when they call the riders to the start line to start the race, you can be one of the first riders to get a front position. This will allow you to ride in the front of the peloton at the beginning of the race, so you can be ready to join any breakaway that usually happens early on in technical criterium cycling races.

A Guide on Buying Road Bikes
How do you know how much you should spend on a new road bike? With so many prices to compare, can you make good decisions? Furthermore, different specifications are altogether making the process of choosing a racing bike even more difficult.
It all depends on your needs. As everyone will have a different lifestyle, quality and prices of bikes also vary.
For example, if you seldom cycle but still like cycling, then a low to mid range price is for you. How much is it? Typically, this will cost you $350 to $650. There is no need to go any more expensive than that. That is because you will be riding only a few times in a month, remember? There is not much difference when it comes to performance if compared to the higher end range bikes.
What if you are an enthusiastic cyclist who is serious about training? Then you need to get bikes that are priced between $700 and $1,300. You must notice that the performance is very near to the top-of-the-line racing bicycle models. What do you get when you pay more? Your fitness is fine. But you really need to join a team first. You first have to get used to riding directly behind people. Averaging 25 an hour is almost easy in a pack if you ride 20 by yourself. But you have to ride 2 inches from the wheel in front of you and get used to cornering without being able to see the corners.
Racing is continuous sprints. If you are at the front of the pack then it is not that bad. But you have to fight for a spot near the front, without being at the front. (30% extra work if you are on the front which is too difficult.)
If you are at the back then you get the accordion effect whereby you have to break hard into the corners and have to sprint going out of them. (Difficult and a waste of energy.) A good rider can use 25% less energy while riding in the same pack as an unexperienced rider, assuming that you start with those city circuits with lots of corners.
Hills in races are generally sprints. This you have to get used to also. You have to pracitce hill repitition sprints.
I was watching the TV today and say Zabbriske fall of his bike in the pack and end up in an ambulance. (Giro d'Ítalia) You have to get used to riding in a pack next and then race. The continuos sprint will get to you at first.
