Comfortable riding with round handlebars:
As far as handlebars are concerned there are two choices, the normal and the anatomic. The initial cycle handlebars were always round. New ideas led to the application of flat sections on the lower section of the drop, exactly under the brake levers. These are the anatomic bicycle handlebars. With two variations you can place your hands at certain angles only. As far as round bars are concerned you can hole the bar anywhere for comfortable bicycle riding.
Thickness of the handlebars is another important factor. The middle section of bicycles initially was built to a standard size and all standardized handlebars would fit onto them. Nowadays you get the standard size as well as oversize middle section. The latter is bigger and comfortable to hang on to when you are climbing. The centre of the handlebar can hold the heart rate monitor as well as the cycle computer, since you rarely hold on to the centre of the handlebar.
Extra comfort with anatomic handlebars:
You can try out both types of handlebars. Anatomic bars are more commonly found as compared to the round handles. Depth and width of the handlebars is very important. Narrow bars will keep your hands close together constricting your breathing as well as the chest movement. You cannot control the bike if the handlebars are too wide. Small riders will find it even more inconvenient riding a bike with wide handlebars causing a lot of wobbling and struggling.
Initially steel was used to make stems and bars but nowadays alloys are used. Steel though heavy is still being used by some track sprinters. Different qualities of alloys are available which are comparatively cheap and light. The lighter the alloy the more expensive it can be. One feature of alloys is that they are more flexible. You have to decide on the stiffness as well as price during the purchase. You could also go in for the strong and light carbon bars. Crashing on the handlebars can cause the handlebars to unravel or just snap off the carbon weave. They come in different shapes and sizes and can have a flat top section, making it comfortable and easy to rest your hands on them.

Getting a Non-Corrosive Bike Frame
If you are a serious biker, you know you want the best bike frame possible . You want comfort, efficiency and reliability. Bikes today have classifications like mountain bike, road bike, street bike and a few others. Compared to 30 years ago when I was growing up, all we knew of was a Schwinn bike.
Today's bikers need to consider a number of things when thinking about buying a bike. What do you want it for i.e. dirt, road, mountains - Is this a short term purchase - Are you concerned about the weight - How much will it costs? You should think about the answer to some of these questions before writing that check .
My preference seems to lean towards bikes with carbon frames . They offer incredible durability with top notch performance levels. Being that Carbon fiber is a composite material, you are destined to have a frame that is extremely strong and durable plus, Carbon is a completely non-corrosive material. The unfortunate side to purchasing a carbon bike frame is that they are not priced like your typical bikes of the past. You will be expected to pay, in some cases, 1 to 2 months worth of rent. This analogy is to put things into perspective. I always like to think of this phrase, "You get what you pay for".
Hmm, Shock resistant Carbon Frame Bikes. Yeah well that's what I keep reading about but I still experience my share of bumps. Even though I am very skeptical, Carbon Frames are really one of the best frames to have that could absorb a lot of shock during your ride. This will reduce wear and tear on the other parts that make up your bike.
One more point on Carbon being non-corrosive. This means that the bike frame will hold up and not rust if you have to leave your bike outside in adverse weather. If you are one of the lucky ones that live along the cost line and love to ride along the water. You should consider purchasing a carbon frame bike.

Trek 2.1 vs Boardman Road Team Carbon Road Bike?
For a (fit, ex-runner) beginner on a road bike, which is a better bike? Hoping to do some road racing for a club at some point but need something to start off with.
The Boardman bike has a carbon fibre frame where the Trek is aluminium but the Trek has a lifetime guarantee and the guys in the shop know what they are talking about and swear by the quality of the bike, where as the blokes in Halfords selling the Boardman don't have a clue.
Any advice?
Boardmans have had good reviews from the bike magazines, but its all down to preference.
A big difference between the two is the groupsets (the gears, chainsets etc.) The boardman uses a sram rival groupset, the trek a shimano 105 groupset. The main difference is the ratios that they use are different. the SRAM uses a 1:1 ratio, (for every 1mm of cable pulled by the shifter, the deraillieur is pulled 1mm) which is supposed to require less maintenece than shimano's 2:1 ratio. This may be worth bearing in mind if you are a beginner.
Although carbon frames are lighter and stronger than aluminium, a crash can make a carbon frame unrideable. Thats where trek's lifetime warranty may prove to be valuable.
I do have experiences with boardmans, and they do seem to be finished well. However because of the trek name is well established, it will hold it's value more if you come to sell it on.
At the end of the day, its got to be what feels right with you.
