As a bike enthusiast, sometimes the thought if riding a bike alone is not the best idea. It makes sense sometimes to ride with a group of people and get together to exchange ideas. There are always war stories from previous rides and there is no better way to share your biking experience than with people that enjoy the sport and understand what you are talking about. However, if you do not have any regular friends or partners you ride with then the time is ripe for you to join a riding club.
Riding clubs could be formal or informal. It could range from a group of friends coming together to ride from a to b at an agreed time or a more formal scenario where an organization is more or less created for the purpose of getting together with other like minds and having a good time. Most clubs will rather have it you ride your own bike. This is mostly the case with a group of friends and even some formal groups. There are many benefits to be gained by joining a group of people to ride and they include:-
-Interact With Like Minded People
-Compare Equipment
-Exchange ideas and Experience
-Keeps You Focused
Interact With Like Minded People
Have you ever had somebody going on and on about a sport you do not care about nor do you want to know anything about it? Yep, I've been there too. You just simply want to snap your finger and make the person vanish. However, by riding in a group or at least getting together with people that share the same sports as you, you can engage each other and learn from each as well. Everybody that is there really wants to be there and nothing is as good as a participatory class where everybody at least shares the same value.
Compare Equipment
It is a sad ting but whenever people come together for some form of activity or the other they start comparing who has the best or biggest equipment. You see that in car racers and other types of sport and biking is not excluded. Furthermore having the best bike in the club or among the group of friends is not something to sneeze at.
Exchange Ideas And Experience
By meeting together as a group you exchange ideas about bikes and the best practices that you have discovered. People can share information about trails they have been on and tell you the best way to fix a particular problem with your bike or actually fix it for you.
Keeps You Focused
Bike riding could be a monotonous day in day out activity and one could easily get bored. However to keep you focused and keep you committed to biking, a good motivating factor will be to ride in group. This way you do not have to try to convince yourself whether you should ride today or not. You are committed to working as a group. There are people who are waiting for you and it will not be a good idea to let them down.

Fitness Equipment For Designing a Senior Retirement Community Fitness Center
Today’s Fitness manufacturers offer so many options in fitness equipment it can be difficult to determine the best options without consulting with a commercial fitness equipment dealer. We are seeing more fitness centers going into Retirement communities, Rehabilitation facilities and even nursing homes. The baby boomer market will eventually increase the need for fitness centers in these types of facilities. The real question is what equipment should you place in these types of facilities to insure a quality workout and avoid injures in the senior market fitness centers.
Safe Strength Training For Senior Fitness
One popular option is the hydraulic circuit fitness equipment; hydraulic fitness equipment has gained momentum with female fitness studios like shapes and other personal trainer facilities, as is an excellent choice for senior fitness. These circuits are perfect for short workouts as they can be arranged into a quick circuit where users can move rather quickly through the exercise routine. Hydraulic circuits can provide excellent metabolic, muscle and strength improvements for the user with less risk of injury since the resistance does not include weights or weight stacks. This can be very important for rehabilitation, as self-progression is slower and not likely to result in over exertion or re-injury of the affected area.
Cardiovascular Fitness Options for Seniors
While age does not prevent one from using any form of cardiovascular equipment there are some choices that seem more safe and or sensible for obtaining a good workout with little risk of injury. The Treadmill is still a good choice as walking provides a great form of calorie burning and conditioning of the heart and lungs. Most gyms will usually only order a few bikes or cycles and even less recumbent cycles but we have determined this to be a favorite among the seniors for cardio training. Recumbent cycles are designed with a larger seat and offer a backrest over the traditional upright bikes. Recumbent cycles offer a easy entry as the bike sits much lower to the ground and many of the newer bikes have a walk through frame design which prevents the user from having to step over the frame of the bike, they can simply sit down and peddle at their own capacity.
Recumbent cycles also offer little to no impact and can allow a user to exercise even if they have arthritis in the knees, ankles or back or hip injuries. Certainly a viable option for rehabilitation or nursing homes where users may have much less mobility. Some of the newer recumbent are also offering models that include upper body exercise arms so the user can work on a recumbent similar to upper body ergo meter or elliptical machines design working both upper and lower body. There are even a few manufacturers that develop rehabilitation exercise equipment specific to duplicate the sitting and standing muscles so that seniors can maintain their mobility and strength for daily activities.
What to Look For When Purchasing Senior Fitness Equipment:
Fitness Equipment that is safe for older or less experienced users
Fitness Equipment that allows for users who may have less mobility
Fitness Equipment that does not require full time spotting or Personal Trainer
Fitness Equipment that allows you to increase intensity at a safe progression
Fitness Equipment that facilitates the faster circuit training style workouts
Fitness Equipment that is easy to adjust for proper resistance and fit
Fitness Equipment that will improve the strength and not intimidate the user
Comfortable practical and make the user feel exercised but not exhausted
Hydraulic circuits and recumbent cycles can be perfect for those who are on the road to recovery from previous injuries, anyone looking for muscle toning without complicated resistance adjustments. The equipment is certainly safer and less likely to result in strains and joint impact to the inexperienced fitness equipment user while still providing a fast and efficient workout.

Campagnolo Ergo Shifters with a full shimano drivetrain on a road bike?
Hello,
I'm currently building a second carbon fiber road bike. At the moment, I have the following components:
- shimano 105 FD
- shimano Ultegra SL RD
- shimano ultegra 12-17 10 speed cassette
- shimano 105 10 chain
- FSA K-force CF crankset (Team Issue) 50-34 ratio
- Campagnolo mirage brakeset
All I'm missing are the shifters.....Nonetheless, I had the opportunity of riding a fellow rider's bike with full Campagnolo Record 10 drivetrain, and I must say, I fell in love the ergo shifters (comfort, smoothness, etc.). That aside, is it possible for me to purchase Record or Centaur 10 speed shifters to use with a full shimano drivetrain? I've heard of using jtek engineering adapters (essentially a little pully)...is that all I'll need?
Best regards!
A.
Excuse me, the cassette is a 12-27, not 12-17
Even if you get it to work, it will not work as well as the bike you tried out. As with Shimano, Campagnolo drivetrains are designed to work as a system together, even if you use a device to compensate for the different pull on the rear derailleur, you may not get the same crisp shifting you felt with that all Record drivetrain you tested. You should buy a set of Shimano shifters for your bike. The only problem I see with that is your brake calipers, there is no release lever on the caliper to allow it to open wider for wheel removal, this will pose a problem every time you want to remove a wheel for maintenance.
