That's why serious cyclists turn to Kryptonite for their security needs. The Evolution Series 4 U-lock is a cut above other bike locks, with a 14mm hardened Max-Performance steel shackle designed to resist both cutters and leverage attacks. Ideal for anyone who lives in moderate to high crime areas, the Series 4 received a 9 on the Kryptonite 1-12 lock comparison system, which ranks the varying levels of security offered by the company's product range. A lock that ranks 1 on the Kryptonite scale might work if you live in the burbs and have a Rottweiler parked next to your bike or motorcycle. A lock that ranks 12, however, is built for maximum deterrence. The Series 4 also offers such security-enhancing features as a double deadbolt locking mechanism for extensive holding power; a disc-style cylinder with more than one million key variations; a reinforced anti-drill/pull cylinder protection system; and a center key location with a dual overhead cam locking mechanism that defends against leverage attacks. The Series 4 is about more than just security, however, with a sliding dustcover that protects and extends cylinder life, anti-rattle bumpers that reduce noise during transport, and versatile EZ mount transportation bracket. And as a bonus, the lock comes with three keys, one of which is lighted with a high-intensity bulb that makes it easy to unlock the Series 4 after dark. The lock measures 4 by 9 inches. The Legendary Durability of Kryptonite Locks The first big test for Kryptonite locks came in 1972, when Kryptonite founder Michael Zane directed the Second Avenue Bicycle Shop in New York City to lock a three-speed bicycle to a signpost in Greenwich Village. Although thieves immediately stripped all of the bicycle's removable parts, the bicycle itself remained for 30 days and 30 nights. The publicity gave Kryptonite the boost it needed and forever changed the face of bicycle security. Twenty-two years later, Kryptonite returned to the streets of the Big Apple to test its latest innovation, the New York lock. In April 1994, the New York Post laid down the ultimate challenge: Could Kryptonite's New York lock last 48 hours on the toughest streets of New York? In a city where more than 100,000 bikes are stolen each year, Kryptonite and the Post locked a brand new, bright green Univega road bike worth $600 to a parking meter in the East Village--the Bermuda Triangle of New York bicycle thievery. For a full 48 hours, the bike remained locked on the corner of Avenue A and 11th Street. Zane and Neil McDaid, director of product development and design for Kryptonite, watched from around the corner as the bike came under every possible means of assault, stumping thieves at every turn. After 48 hours the bike remained intact except for the gear derailleur, which had been stripped off. The lock showed definite signs of abuse, but it had not failed. The New York lock had met the Post's challenge. Not satisfied with the length of the test, Zane moved the bike to SoHo for another six days and, finally, uptown near the Lincoln Center. Even in these high-theft areas the properly locked bike lasted another three weeks before being pulled off the streets by Zane and McDaid. The Post also ran the New York lock through a battery of street tests using common bike theft tools: a 4-foot bolt cutter, a crowbar, and a hammer. The non-Kryptonite locks cracked in seconds, but all methods failed on the New York lock, even the monstrous bolt cutter, which was rendered useless with large dents in its jaws. About Kryptonite In the early 1970s, Michael Zane was a free-spirited, bearded kid with a VW van and a big idea for a new kind of lock. He traveled thousands of miles showing the unique U-shaped locking device and spreading his passion for bicycle security to bike dealers all around the country and forged lifetime relationships. The company soon expanded its product line to include power sports, hardware, and snow sports security. Through innovative product designs, cutting-edge marketing savvy, legendary customer service, and pure fanaticism for security, Kryptonite grew with a cult-like following. In 2001, the company that was started in a VW van was purchased by industry giant Ingersoll Rand and became a flagship brand in the company's Security Technologies sector. Publications such as Bicycling, Fortune, The Wall Street Journal, US News & World Report, and a host of others continued to tout Kryptonite products as the best on the market. The company's dedication to its customers is best represented by its actions during the fall of 2004, when it was discovered that the industry-standard tubular cylinder could be compromised, at times, with a household item. Kryptonite flew into action, created a voluntary lock exchange program, and replaced more than 400,000 locks in 21 countries for free. In essence, the company redesigned the equivalent of nine years worth of new products in just 10 short months. Kryptonite is the only company in the world that offered such a comprehensive plan to customers, taking its "legendary customer service" pledge to new heights. |

In the market for a new mountain bike? Don't type in your credit card details just yet. A new mountain bike is a substantial purchase, and a little bit of research and thought can make the whole ordeal both easier and more satisfying. This guide will help you find the right mountain bike for the right price.
What Kind of Bike is Right For You?
Mountain bikes come in a number of different styles and makes, depending on the type of terrain you plan on taking on. One bike might be best suited to a rough-terrain, downhill ride, while another bike is optimal road or light off-road riding.
In your search for a new bike, be sure and take into account the terrain you'll be riding on. Some of the cheaper models are just fine for light conditions, but if you plan on taking on some really adventurous rides, it's definitely worth it to shell out a few extra dollars.
Another thing to take into account is that mountain bikes, like road bikes, generally come in a Men's and Women's style. The difference is not just aesthetic: men and women have different body builds, and riding the wrong style of bike can either impede your ability, or worse, end up hurting you.
Also, make sure and look at the suspension that comes with the bike. In mountain biking, a good suspension can mean the difference between a smooth, enjoyable ride and an utterly disastrous one. Optimally, we recommend a full- or dual-suspension, preferably an adjustable one, for serious riding, though a front- or rear-only suspension is fine for road and simple-trail riding. Understand your options and find out which is best for you: full suspension or front suspension.
Set a Price Range
Like any other specialized product, mountain bikes come in a wide spectrum of prices. Frankly, you could spend anywhere from $100 to over $4,000 on a new mountain bike. Consider your budget and set a realistic maximum price for your new bike.
If you're looking to save a few dollars (and who isn't?), we highly recommend checking online, especially for used bikes. You can find a used machine for a fraction of the price, and if you're thorough in your shopping, you can find one that is in perfect or near-perfect condition.
Specialized Components
There are a number of components to look at for your new bicycle. Besides the all-important suspension, it's a good idea to look at breaks, frame composition, gear-shifters, and other options.
For example, rim brakes are generally cheaper than disc brakes, but offer less control. For easy riding, rim brakes are just fine, but if you're going on tough downhill rides, you'll definitely want the added punch of high-quality disc brakes.
Tires are also crucial. Wide tires (1.5-2 Inches) are ideal for rough terrain, because they give you maximum control. Thinner tires are much better suited to road and light off-road situations (much like the super-thin tires seen on quality road bikes) because they allow for higher speed, but will cause problems when the terrain changes.
Conclusion:
The fact is, buying a new mountain bike is a big purchase, and one that absolutely warrants serious consideration. Don't rush into an ill-advised purchase. Consider all the variables and buy the best mountain bike for you.

Buying Saris Bones 805 2-Bike Trunk Mount Rack
BuyingSaris Bones 805 2-Bike Trunk Mount Rack
Easy to use and it fits
I could not find a bike rack from either Yakima or Thule that would attach to my two cars. So, it was with a great deal of trepidation that I ordered the Saris sight unseen. The mounting instructions were easy to understand and the rack attachs firmly to either of my two cars. Being the lazy sort, I store it in the mounting position for one of them. When I need to use it, I simply position the straps and snug them up. The straps are well made and protect the attachment points.Movement of the front wheel is minimal, but a bungee cord securing it might be advisable for long or bumpy trips.
The practical and minimalist design of this rack is outstanding. I will tell anyone who seeks my advice on a bike rack to check out Saris before looking at any of the competition.

awesome
Well worth the extra money over simpler models. No scratches on the car. Stable, easy to set up. Should have bought this a long time ago.
======================================================================
It fit my Honda Prelude perfectly
I have a lightweight Fuji road bike and had no problems installing this rack on my 01 Honda Prelude. I do NOT have a spoiler. One reviewer stated that this rack will ruin my paint, but I must have a thousand coats of wax on my Lude and don't expect any problems. NOTE: I took Anthony's advice (the guy in NY with the BMW) and bought rubber tape at Lowe's and wrapped the clips.
======================================================================
Awesome- sturdy, safe and easy to install
Easy to install- though initial set up may take about 20 minutes to set arm positions and figure out strap placement and length. Holds bikes secure with straps for (top tube and seat post) and allows ample adjustment possibilities to keep the bikes (and bike tires) away from the vehicle body/paint. If its rubbing- you probably don't have the arm height adjusted right (as I found out). Fits both my 2000 Honda Prelude and 2007 Accord carrying a Bianchi road bike and a Gary Fischer MTB. I read a lot of reviews complaining about the the set screws being plastic and stripping. This brought up initial concerns about material and build quality. While I can see how it would be easy to think that these need to be gorilla tight- there is no reason to go crazy with them. The rack arms are designed so the rack does the work- the set screw just keeps the arm position from sliding around laterally. Just a little snug on the screws and a recheck every so often as you head down the road. Rack is made sturdy light weight plastic reinforced with aluminum where it counts. Well designed and easy to load. Folds up compact and stows easy in trunk (even in my tiny Prelude trunk)or in corner of the closet. Glad I spent a little bit more initially and got something that works with no headache- and if something happens there is a lifetime warranty from Saris on it. Solid rack.
======================================================================
Works great!
PROS:
Takes 5 minutes to install or remove
Fine in all weather
Looks cool
Sturdy
CONS:
Front tire is permitted limited movement (using a $2 bungee cord to secure it works well)
No way to secure the bike or carrier with a lock for security

Is there any kick stand for road bike is available?
It may sound crazy but for years I am riding MTB and now I switched to Trek 1500 (Road bike) which comes with no bolting place to mount a kick stand. My dealer put a kick stand and yesterday, it almost broke my rear wheel spokes (got displaced on road)
Is there ant kick stand available for road bikes, at least while I take a little rest I can make my bike stand on the road side for long trip time?
To: cincykid1194
Where can I ger that "Grand Stand" you mentioned? Please mention some web site with model so that I can see or order.
Simple answer - don't do it.
Kick stands add weight, they rattle, and there will come a time when you push the pedals backwards and catch the damn thing, forcing it into the down postion, damaging the thing, the bike, or both. Beside that, there is nothing you can do to avoid damaging the paint while at the same time making sure the thing is firmly attached to the point where it won't come loose.
There's nothing wrong with laying the bike on the ground or against a tree, post, wall, etc. Kick stands are a complete waste of money, and should be banned.
