Big city cyclists need big city protection, as would-be thieves aren't intimidated by flimsy cables or weak U-locks. That's why serious cyclists turn to Kryptonite for their security needs. The Evolution Series 4 U-lock is a cut above other bike locks, with a 14mm hardened Max-Performance steel shackle designed to resist both cutters and leverage attacks. Ideal for anyone who lives in moderate to high crime areas, the Series 4 received a 9 on the Kryptonite 1-12 lock comparison system, which ranks the varying levels of security offered by the company's product range. A lock that ranks 1 on the Kryptonite scale might work if you live in the burbs and have a Rottweiler parked next to your bike or motorcycle. A lock that ranks 12, however, is built for maximum deterrence. The Series 4 also offers such security-enhancing features as a double deadbolt locking mechanism for extensive holding power; a disc-style cylinder with more than one million key variations; a reinforced anti-drill/pull cylinder protection system; and a center key location with a dual overhead cam locking mechanism that defends against leverage attacks. The Series 4 is about more than just security, however, with a sliding dustcover that protects and extends cylinder life, anti-rattle bumpers that reduce noise during transport, and versatile EZ mount transportation bracket. And as a bonus, the lock comes with three keys, one of which is lighted with a high-intensity bulb that makes it easy to unlock the Series 4 after dark. The lock measures 4 by 9 inches. The Legendary Durability of Kryptonite Locks The first big test for Kryptonite locks came in 1972, when Kryptonite founder Michael Zane directed the Second Avenue Bicycle Shop in New York City to lock a three-speed bicycle to a signpost in Greenwich Village. Although thieves immediately stripped all of the bicycle's removable parts, the bicycle itself remained for 30 days and 30 nights. The publicity gave Kryptonite the boost it needed and forever changed the face of bicycle security. Twenty-two years later, Kryptonite returned to the streets of the Big Apple to test its latest innovation, the New York lock. In April 1994, the New York Post laid down the ultimate challenge: Could Kryptonite's New York lock last 48 hours on the toughest streets of New York? In a city where more than 100,000 bikes are stolen each year, Kryptonite and the Post locked a brand new, bright green Univega road bike worth $600 to a parking meter in the East Village--the Bermuda Triangle of New York bicycle thievery. For a full 48 hours, the bike remained locked on the corner of Avenue A and 11th Street. Zane and Neil McDaid, director of product development and design for Kryptonite, watched from around the corner as the bike came under every possible means of assault, stumping thieves at every turn. After 48 hours the bike remained intact except for the gear derailleur, which had been stripped off. The lock showed definite signs of abuse, but it had not failed. The New York lock had met the Post's challenge. Not satisfied with the length of the test, Zane moved the bike to SoHo for another six days and, finally, uptown near the Lincoln Center. Even in these high-theft areas the properly locked bike lasted another three weeks before being pulled off the streets by Zane and McDaid. The Post also ran the New York lock through a battery of street tests using common bike theft tools: a 4-foot bolt cutter, a crowbar, and a hammer. The non-Kryptonite locks cracked in seconds, but all methods failed on the New York lock, even the monstrous bolt cutter, which was rendered useless with large dents in its jaws. About Kryptonite In the early 1970s, Michael Zane was a free-spirited, bearded kid with a VW van and a big idea for a new kind of lock. He traveled thousands of miles showing the unique U-shaped locking device and spreading his passion for bicycle security to bike dealers all around the country and forged lifetime relationships. The company soon expanded its product line to include power sports, hardware, and snow sports security. Through innovative product designs, cutting-edge marketing savvy, legendary customer service, and pure fanaticism for security, Kryptonite grew with a cult-like following. In 2001, the company that was started in a VW van was purchased by industry giant Ingersoll Rand and became a flagship brand in the company's Security Technologies sector. Publications such as Bicycling, Fortune, The Wall Street Journal, US News & World Report, and a host of others continued to tout Kryptonite products as the best on the market. The company's dedication to its customers is best represented by its actions during the fall of 2004, when it was discovered that the industry-standard tubular cylinder could be compromised, at times, with a household item. Kryptonite flew into action, created a voluntary lock exchange program, and replaced more than 400,000 locks in 21 countries for free. In essence, the company redesigned the equivalent of nine years worth of new products in just 10 short months. Kryptonite is the only company in the world that offered such a comprehensive plan to customers, taking its "legendary customer service" pledge to new heights.

A mountain bike buying trip can be more taxing than the toughest trail. However, it becomes quite simple if you put a bit of time and thought into the purchase!

Planning carefully around your unique mountain bike buying requirements, may be what prevents your bike from becoming just another silver elephant.

You will have one set of needs if you plan to ride frequently, be a serious racer, and take part in events. In this case, you will have to do some serious mountain bike buying, looking for durability and ruggedness in all the components. You will also have to look for a bike that is brash enough to handle any weather, and conditions that are not ideal.

If, on the other hand, you are simply going to enjoy a leisurely weekend ride, your task will be much easier. Here, comfort may be your main consideration.

If you are planning to do a bit of mountain bike buying, you also have to ask yourself if you will have time to spend on maintaining the bike, or if you will need one that doesn't require too much of you in the form of pampering and TLC!

Decide what your upper price limit is, and examine your options within that range. Look at slightly more expensive models to get an idea of what you get for that price. In the long run it may well be worth spending a little more when mountain bike buying, as a better quality bike may offer better stability, control, and a safer ride.

When mountain bike buying, you will have to decide between full suspension and hardtail. The more expensive bikes have full suspension, which adds to riding comfort on rough terrain. This just means that, similar to a car, both wheels are suspended by springs and shock absorbers.

These bikes may be heavier and slower, but for serious mountain biking they offer better control and a less bumpy ride. If you can afford it, this is the way to go .

You will ease your task immeasurably, if you ask other bikers for the best specialized store for mountain bike buying. You need a store where you will feel comfortable enough to ask questions. The salespeople must be knowledgeable, and trustworthy. You must be invited to take your bike back for any repairs or maintenance.

Look for a bike store that has a good reputation and check the qualifications of the mechanics working there. A specialist bike store often adds value in terms of support and after sales service, and will contribute to making mountain bike buying a pleasant experience.

The salesperson should be able to help you to find the best fit in terms of adjusting the handlebar stem, saddle, seat post, or cranks. Make sure that the frame suits you by sitting astride the bike. You should be able to reach the handlebars easily and not have to balance on tip-toe.

Your last task when mountain bike buying, is to scrutinize the warranty, and make sure that you are sufficiently covered. Also make sure what you may and may not do in terms of modifications. You don't want to void your warranty through ignorance.

Mountain bike buying may be less expensive in July and August when bike shops are getting rid of older models to make way for new stock.

If you are a novice on a mountain bike buying trip, it is often safer to buy established brand names like Gary Fisher, Trek, Giant, Klein, Shwinn, Haro, Jeep, or Specialized. Because of the volume these companies produce, their prices can come down without affecting quality. The value in their brand name, also prevents them from using inferior components, that will affect the durability of the bike.

Mountain bike buying is a long-term investment. Take the time to make the right choice!

2010 Dodge Ram 2500 Laramie Mega Cab 4x4 Diesel - Long-Term Road Test Intro

Date: June 2010
Months in Fleet: 2 months
Present Mileage: 5128 miles
Typical Fuel Economy: 13 mpg
Array: 442 miles
Assistance: $0
Typical Wear: $0
Repair: $0

Unable to go without a tow automobile for much more than 5 minutes, we lined up yet another hauler to succeed the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 that lately left our long-term fleet. Its replacement as resident long-term Ram is this all-black 2010 don't-call-it-Dodge (even though we even now do) Ram 2500 Laramie Mega Cab 4x4 while using optional Cummins diesel. The name is as extended since the truck, but, in brief, it hauls.

To become sincere, a few of us had been dreaming of some thing just a little bigger-namely, a 3500 dualie just such as the two-tone beauty you may have witnessed in recent Ram Hi-def ads. Plus a couple of us desired a handbook transmission. And your author desired a front bench seat. But it's excellent that the less-insane amongst us won out, simply because this point is seriously massive; the dualie wouldn't have fit in a lot of staffers' driveways.

What we ended up with, though, is very easily 1 with the baddest-ass off-road executive limos feasible. Everyone is pleased while using Mega Cab's large back seat, a lot more for its capability to swallow an SUV-equivalent amount of cargo than to the extra legroom. (Most trips so far have been one- or two-up.) The fact that we are left having a six-foot-four-inch bed as opposed to the regular- or crew cab's eight-footer has gone mainly unnoticed.

A Mover, but Not a Shaker

And we've previously completely tested the Ram's potential to transport inanimate objects; in just two months, it has helped three editors move to new dwellings, towed our not-yet-completed project Mazdaspeed five to finishing school, and lugged 1 editor's Spec Miata and its assorted race-weekend accouterments to numerous track events. The Ram hasn't sat idle for extended since it arrived in April.

Whether or not unladen, filled towards headliner with moving boxes, or saddled having a trailer, the Hi-def Ram has proved surprisingly comfy. Trip was a concern when we spec'd out this truck, provided how the HDs ditch the 1500's coil springs-fitted in the title of ımproved comfort-for a set of burlier leaf springs. But although ıt is not really as coddling as the coil-sprung 1500, the larger truck is among probably the most comfy heavy-duty rigs we've driven. Yes, the trip might be a bit choppy from time to time, but it's by no means unacceptably harsh, and this ıs really a freaking truck, after all; it ain't gonna journey like an S-class.

What's Inside

Our high degree of comfort also owes towards the Laramie finery with which the truck is outfitted, plus some with the possibilities. But first, let's get the really practical add-ons out with the way. The aforementioned Cummins diesel costs $7615, but that is prior to the $1170 credit history for the base guide transmission. We went for your six-speed automatic, which cancels the credit history and adds one more $405. Other functional choices had been a limited-slip rear diff ($325) and an integrated trailer-brake controller ($230).

Towards the Laramie's leather-lined cabin we additional bucket front seats ($500) with power adjust, heat, and ventilation; ordering this option also nabs a 115-volt AC outlet and rear-seat heaters. An upgrade from typical all-seasons to all-terrain tires expense $100, a rearview camera was $200, a drop-in bedliner expense $245, clearance lights had been $80, a skid plate for that transfer situation rung up at a mere $50, along with a remote starter was $185. You may possibly call us lazy for adding that last one, but we've discovered it shortens startup times by giving the cylinders the needed moment to preheat prior to we climb up into the cab and absentmindedly twist the ımportant. (On second thought, you are able to go forward and call us lazy.) Our truck had a fixed rear window with a defroster rather than the sliding glass; this additional an $85 credit rating. Our single-color paint work deletes the fender flares, saving an extra $100.

Our total: $54,650, which can be definitely a whole lot for a pickup, but our optioned Ram is some 3 grand cheaper than the base price tag from the poshest diesel 2011 Ford F-250, the King Ranch. The Ford's Power Stroke V-8, nonetheless, does deliver an extra 40 hp and 85 lb-ft of torque over our Ram's 350-horse inline-six with 650 lb-ft of torque. A Ram 2500 SLT Mega Cab using the Cummins and six-speed car begins at $48,150.

So far, there are already no support visits or ıssues to report. The Cummins diesel has netted a 13-mpg typical, that is fair considering the quantity of towing the truck may be doing and its prodigious poundage. Empty, our truck ıdeas the scales at almost four tons, a full 1940 far more pounds than our current long-term Ram 1500. We're keen to discover out if our affection holds up over the following 35,000 miles' worth of road trips, hauling sprees, and towing adventures.

Discomfort from new road bike saddle...?

I just bought a new road bike a few weeks ago, and I am used to riding alot on my mountain bike. I've been going about 30 miles per ride on my new road bike, and I noticed that there is much more discomfort in forward unmentionable parts of my anatomy (as a woman). I already had the seat adjusted from tilting forward to slightly tilted up. It's less uncomfortable now than before, but I still get rather tender. Am I not riding in the right position or is it the saddle's position? Or, is it just something I have to get used to, like my rear end did when I first started going long distances on the mountain bike?

This is quite a common problem. With the nature of the problem, it is very hard to get someone to help you. There are a few things that you can try. Have a read through these links.

http://sheldonbrown.com/saddles.html

http://gorp.away.com/gorp/gear/features/bikesad2.htm

You have stated that tilting the seat up has reduced the problem. This adjustment tends to make your pelvis more upright placing more weight on your sit bones.

Modifying your posture or adjusting the seat (possibly sliding the seat a touch forward will help) to put even more weight on your sit bones should help some more.

Being on a wsd you should have a good chance of getting it right. The seat sounds like it is at the right angle (dead level or slightly up). If your seat has been adjusted for leg length and your pelvis doesn't rock. That only really leaves forward and back adjustment and posture.

If you are still having trouble you might have to try a few saddles, to see if you can find something that takes the weight of your um... soft tissues.

Auction to showcase cars’ value
The lure of rare classic cars is expected to pull thousands of spectators and bidders to an Indy Motor Car Auction Group event at Indiana Live! Casino on July 31. The “Voice of the Indy 500,” Mike King, is the announcer for the Summer Classic Collector Automobile Auction.
