Anyone who rides their motorcycle a lot knows that if your seat isn't really comfortable, you are going to end up with a sore rear if you go on long rides. The seats that come with motorcycles are not necessarily the best seats available. You can get a number of different custom motorcycle seats to make long rides more comfortable and minimize the chances of being sore by the end of the ride.
Although there are some custom motorcycle seats that need to be made for a particular bike, the Airhawk Air-adjustable Pillion Seat Cushion can be used with any bike to make your passenger more comfortable. It comes in a small seat (for $170) or a large seat (for $180) depending on the size of your pillion seat. There is also a large cruiser seat for use with cruising bikes. These are air cell filled cushions made of neoprene and covered with a nylon and lycra cover. They are meant to sit on top of your seat rather than to replace it. They are one of the more affordable options since you don't have to replace the original seat.
Those with bikes such as the bikes such as the Honda Shadow 750 Aero, Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Custom, Honda VTX 1300 C, and Honda VTX 1300 Retro can get Saddleman Tattoo Profiler Seats from Cruiser Customizing for $289. These custom motorcycle seats are made for looks as well as comfort, with a 3-D stitch pattern effect and a Tattoo flame design on the black leather seat. Progressive density foam is combined with SaddleGelä to increase the comfort of the seat, and the seat is specially designed so that you ride as low as possible.
Saddleman also makes special, extra comfortable custom motorcycle seats for Harley Davidson Touring Bikes. One type available is the Saddlemen Road Sofa Deluxe Touring Seats SaddleHyde. These seats are a bit pricey at $530, but if you go on a lot of long rides you might want to splurge. SaddleGel seats covered with black SaddleHyde(TM) that is waterproof are made with separate seats and back rests for both the front and the back in order to reduce the pressure on your hip and tail bones.

What's "in" right now for saddleseat show clothes?
I'm getting ready to show a flat shod TWH and don't know much about saddle seat show clothes. I know most any class I take her in would be informal as I've heard the formal classes are for the big time stuff. So what's the deal with some jackets having shawl collars and some having notched lapels? It looks like most of the suits have the notched lapels, would that be out of place in a informal class? Also she's a black roan what colors would look best? Any help is appreciated!
I've been showing Arabians for 7 yrs now, huntseat and western, untill I got this TWH. But saddle seat just isn't very popular in this area for any breed really.
I'm into Morgans and don't know what's hot on the TWH scene, but you probably won't find many knowledgeable saddle seat riders on here, so here's my take...
Regarding formal vs. informal. At least in Morgans, formal classes are the evening classes; all daytime classes are informal. However, a nice informal suit is ALWAYS appropriate -- it's better to dress conservatively than to be inappropriate. For informal wear, you should have (from top to bottom): a derby, tie (we've stolen several from dad!), button down shirt with standard collar (not a wing collar), day coat, gloves, jod pants, and jod boots. A vest is optional -- I like the touch if it isn't too hot. All of these should be somewhat color coordinated. I like having a black hat, boots, jods, and gloves to go with any of my conservative day coats. Then I spice it up with a nice pattered tie (make sure these are in on your circuit). Or, you can get a nice suit with matching jod pants and coat.
Notched vs. shawl is usually a current trend fashion thing, as are colors. So go to a show! Check out the fashions in your area! What are the successful trainers and their amateur clients wearing? Look at the cuts, the colors, and especially accessories! Are people wearing color coordinated handkerchiefs in their pockets? Does everyone have a collar bar? Trust me, you don't want to be the only one who's behind in some tiny trend area that happens to be hot right now!
If you can't go to a show (or even if you can), try to find someone in your area to mentor you in this area! In a fashion-oriented division like saddle seat I'm also a fan of doing at least your first few shows with a trainer! It can be a little expensive, but you can also waste a lot of entry fees on trail-and-error learning...trust me... The pros know all the little details that will make show day go smoothly.
Finally, the folks at Hartmeyer ARE amazing. Really! They know all the trends and are wonderful to work with!
One last thing...this is random, but once you buy your suit and get on your horse, flip back your coattails to a natural position and safety pin them in place (from the back). It's a pet peeve of mine, but it really look unprofessional if halfway through the class your coattails aren't turned back anymore, lol!
Good luck!
