One of the most important things long-distance cycling Top Guns must contend with is choosing a comfortable bike seat. Choose the wrong one and you could have hell to pay and perhaps find yourself unable to finish your long-distance ride. Each year many riders set out to cross the United States by bicycle, some finish but many do not.
Why? Well, they say one of the biggest complaints has to do with ergonomics and a really sore buttocks. Of course imagine yourself one a bicycle 8-10 hours per day for a month and a half? Now you can see the importance of all this.
There are several designs really to choose from out there, but if you believe this is one of the most important considerations in long-distance cycling then you are right about that. A bad seat would really hurt and you would be sore over that length of time. But even those who ride only 60-100 miles one time per week they too complain about a sore buttocks and a good seat makes all the difference in the world.
One problem which most professional bicycling associations are not addressing is that the average American has a bigger buttocks than ever before in our nation’s history. This requires a bigger seat to properly support the extra weight and larger buttocks surface area. Some of the most innovative newer seats are actually two seats in one; that is to say one small sear for each side of the human riders buttocks. Please take my advice if you plan to ride a long distance; get the proper seat in advance. Think on this in 2006.

Top Accessories for Riders of BMW Motorcycles
BMW motorcycle owners are very particular about their bikes, like other motorcycle owners. But in some cases, the riders of BMW motorcycles take their fastidiousness to a larger degree, often pampering their bikes with the best materials and accessories that can be found anywhere.
This meticulousness in their care for their motorcycles has led some companies and individuals to develop accessories that are only for BMW motorcycles. Here are some of the top items that owners of these bikes can get to enhance their rides.
First of all, and maybe most exciting, are custom windshields. The owners of BMW motorcycles are lucky in that they can get custom windshields made by someone who used to make aircraft windshields. Because of this, these windshields are particularly well-designed. Called Cee Bailey windshields, these can be ordered in custom lengths and in a variety of tints. All are free of distortions that are common in all other windshields, and all are thicker than traditional windshields. Cee Bailey windshields can be made for all types of BMW motorcycles. To find them, do an online search for "Cee Bailey BMW motorcycles windshields".
Another accessory that many owners of BMW motorcycles choose to purchase is Russell Day-Long Touring Saddles. Granted, these custom-made seats are not only made for BMW motorcycles; however, a large percentage of riders who purchase the Day-Long Touring Saddles are BMW owners.
The Russell Day-Long Touring Saddles can be customized in many ways. The manufacturers take the rider's (or riders') height and weight and looks at pictures of the customer(s) sitting in their previous motorcycle seats. The saddles are then designed to the customer specifications as to color, fabric, style, and other considerations. Customers may also choose to add lumbar support or to make theirs a heated saddle seat. Seats can also be embroidered with a customer name or initials.
Then, of course, most riders of BMW motorcycles want a GPS (global positioning system) unit. But BMW riders don't just want to head to the nearest electronics store to purchase one. No, they want the special GPS unit that was developed by BMW. This is called the BMW Motorrad Navigator GPS.
This unit comes in a few different model types, but all include street maps for every state in the United States, an anti-glare high definition surface so that they can be read even in direct sunlight, and text-to-speech software that enables the rider to listen to directions rather than having to take his eyes off of the road to read them.
Most BMW owners also want to get customized helmets and other riding gear. Customization is really the name of the game when it comes to BMW motorcycles. Helmets can be sized to fit larger heads, which can be quite helpful for many people. Other riders prefer to have unique riding jackets or handlebar grips. Some riders of BMW motorcycles even like to customize their motorcycle parts; items such as tires, chain guards, spark plugs, gauges, and more. Having items made to order is something many BMW owners greatly enjoy.

Whats the best way to choose a road saddle?
Im on the market for a new saddle. around 100 bucks
whats the best way to pick one out?
any recomendations?
is it rude to ask for a shop to install the seat so you can test it?
thanks
I am a mountain biker mostly and a road rider occasionally. I have been thru several seats in the last 3 years and have finally settled on (of all else) a Tri-saddle for one of my XC bikes. On the others I use a WTB saddle for the most part. On my road bike I found a more comfortable saddle with padding that the most ardent rider would turn their noses up at. I have tried many and generally a saddle takes up to two weeks of use to know exactly how it will feel. Most shops will likely let you go thru a couple saddles to try them out but for the most part would not likely want to spend all day going thru each one they have. (I personally would not as time is money and would rather you buy one, take it home and use it and given a set amount of time would likely take it back in exchange for another one at that time. I would let you try a few though. Test rides on different saddles around the store will tell you next to nothing though! Hey, It cant hurt to ask though.
see here for a few to look at: http://www.performancebike.com/shop/sub_cat.cfm?subcategory_id=5210 for men's saddles and these: http://www.performancebike.com/shop/sub_cat.cfm?subcategory_id=5211 for women....since you dont give your gender or bike type it is hard to narrow this down for you.
