Developed exclusively to fit Shimano STI shifter/brake levers, the Mirrycle Road STI bicycle mirror makes it easy to tell when a car is pulling up from the rear. The mirror is easy to mount: just pull the rubber hood off the Shimano STI lever clip, slip the mirror base over the top, and then replace the hood. Once mounted, the mirror is located in the best possible position for watching the road behind. Just a flick of your eyes allows for a quick view of approaching cars or other cyclists. Best of all, the mirror doesn't get in the way of the STI levers, so you can shift and stop safely at all times. The Mirrycle road mirror--which attaches to either the left or right side lever--comes with all the necessary tools and is engineered to fit almost any STI lever. The Road Mirror will NOT fit on most Shimano STI levers installed on bikes after Spring 2010. Tri suits are an all-in-one outfit that can be worn throughout every leg of a triathlon. Most tri suits are water resistant and designed to streamline the body in water as well as on land. They are made using advanced technical materials that dry very quickly on leaving the water and most come with a pad, or chamois, that improves comfort in the saddle on the cycle leg but doesn't impede running.
If you compete in or are interested in competing in triathlon you will certainly need a good tri suit. Although what you wear in training is less important than when you are competing you should still train in a tri suit to get used to the feeling and to make sure it is comfortable and a good fit. The worst possible discomfort during such a long endurance race is chafing and unless you have the right suit this can be a real problem.
If you are just starting out and looking for a tri suit there are plenty of entry level suits on the market, at the lower end of the price spectrum. At this kind of level a suit should be comfortable and breathable, with an easy-to-use zip. It should not rub or chafe, and preferably have a thin chamois.
Most suits are made using material that is breathable and that dries rapidly once you're out of the water and on the bike. At any level a tri suit should be a tight fit, but not too tight so that it becomes uncomfortable.
At the next level up, for those wanting to train and race more frequently, tri suits should be fully breathable and totally water repellent. You should look for one that has a fast-drying chamois and has mesh paneling. Some suits have pockets for longer distances, when you might need to stash an energy bar or gel.
Most tri suits fit under a wetsuit for the swim leg but bear in mind that if you are competing in a swim that does not require a wetsuit, pockets on a tri suit could cause extra drag in the water and slow you down.
Generally the more you spend the more technically advanced a tri suit will be. For top performance athletes who are looking for the most advantage from their equipment a good tri suit is imperative. It needs to be breathable but completely water repellent, thin, light and designed with speed in mind, with features such as flatlock stitching to prevent chafing, a thin chamois that dries quickly, easy-to-use zips, and leg grippers - these help to keep the suit from riding up as you cycle and run.
Tri suits are all designed with speed and performance in mind, but there are many different designs on the market, to suit all levels of athlete and different body shapes. Women's suits are cut differently to men's to suit the different proportions of women for maximum comfort and efficiency, and many have a built in bra to provide an all-in-one solution.
Tri suits are made using different materials, with various features, and with different distances in mind, but all can be worn during all of the disciplines throughout the whole triathlon. They make the transitions much easier and quicker as you can wear a tri suit under a wetsuit and do not have to change between disciplines.
Prices of tri suits vary depending on the number of features provided and the types of materials used, but at any level a good tri suit will improve your performance and provide comfort for the duration of the race.

Going Carp Fishing in France
France has become an extremely popular destination for the carp angler, especially with so many different carp lakes in France choose from and many that have carp in excess of 40lb to 50lb plus.
However, due to the sheer size of the carp, you do need to have sensible equipment in which to land these fish. Most people recommend at least a 2 and 3/4 test curve rod or more, plus baitrunner reels are a must. We actually use the Shimano 8010GT baitrunner reels, and although there are some more modern ones on the market, we prefer these to anything else. But a lot of people also opt for the large big pit reels that hold a lot more line, as some of the places you may choose to fish could be quite a considerable distance from the bank.
In France there are a lot of privately owned fishing lakes such as Rainbow Lake, L'Etang de Tricherie, L'Etang du Chef de Ville, etc, that hire boats and many other lakes such as Bills Lake and Brittany Mill Lakes that allow you to use your own or hire out bait boats.
Also, many carp fishing lakes do not allow braid and the best option is monofilament line and we have found that Ultima PowerPlus is an excellent quality fishing line, yet a higher breaking strain line is needed when you are carp fishing in France compared to fishing most lakes in the UK.
Some lakes are also extremely strict on the type of tent where it must be a bivvy, but like ourselves where we do this as a family, we have a large tent which is not gaudy in colour but needs a bigger swim than most, so there are certain lakes that we could not go fishing at for this reason, so it is sensible to check out these details prior to booking your carp fishing holiday.
Now bait is something that differs from lake to lake and in some French carp lakes they will only allow specific types of bait and it is necessary to check this before you go, for instance, tiger nuts or certain ground baits are not allowed.
Mobile phones are the norm these days, but apart from these that need charging, you do have to consider things like bait boats if you have one, but there are now plenty of carp fishing lakes in France that do cater for charging different equipment you have, and when it comes to facilities, something you may not have really thought about is the need for a freezer, hang on forget this, what about washing facilities? Well forget this as well, we need the fridge, not just for the bait, but that cold beer or chilled water on a really hot day!
And although we all know the drive and survive aspect, there are now numerous different carp fishing lakes in France that have complete packages available right through from accommodation, to all of your equipment supplied and even lakes that supply a complete service from the flights through to full board, along with exclusive fishing and some of these include Dream Lakes, Croix Blanche, Willow Lake, Lake Juvanze, Brittany Mill Lakes and many more, plus some lakes are also available as an exclusive family holiday.
However, the cost for these and the all inclusive carp fishing packages can be considerably more expensive than making your own arrangements, but it can certainly save you a lot of hassle and keep the Wife happy!
Rules and regulations vary at the numerous carp lakes in France and some allow you to fish with three rods, whereas others are four and night fishing is only allowed if the owner has a permit for this, so again it is always a good idea to check these points prior to booking.
Other points you feel are essential for you, like local bars, restaurants, shops or swimming facilities, etc are also good points to check on, plus most people find that the carp fishing is best during the months from April through to October, but do bear in mind the further down South you go in the height of summer with hot days, most of the action will happen at night when it is cooler, so you had better be prepared for lack of sleep!
On one session near Bordeaux, we were getting up and down to the bite alarms at least two to three times every night and by the time our stay was coming to an end, we pulled our rods in just so that we could get some peace and quiet and catch up with much needed sleep before the long drive back home!
But saying that, when you are catching 40lb plus carp each time, the lack of sleep becomes insignificant and if you want to try catching a fish of a lifetime or just beating your personal best, then a carp fishing holiday in France is definitely for you!

Bar- end replacements?
My Suntour bar-end shifters are now worn & stripped so I am looking for a set of replacements. My question is: As I search around I see that I can purchase 8 speed shifters, 10 speed shifters. My Shimano set up is the standard 7-3; so how can I be certain which to buy 8 or 10?
Appreciated
Yep, MR is right. You can probably find some friction shifters if you don't mind super-old-school operation. I'm not sure if the current products from Shimano have the friction option since indexed shifting is the cat's meow, but if they do you'd be ok there. I kinda miss the days of friction shifters.....it was one of those skills that marked a good cyclist. With indexed shifting, all you have to do now is have minimal motor skills and strong legs. Ha!
)
If you have a steel frame, it's entirely possible for you to have a competent frame shop spread the stays to 130mm and then install either a new 8-9 speed wheel, or lace in a new freehub to your existing wheel. The 7-spd and lower hubs used 126mm spacing. I did this to an old British road frame and it was great......they must have done a good job adjusting the stays and lugs because I could still ride that bike no-handed without any leaning or wandering. If you have an aluminum frame, you're kinda stuck with 7-spd.
You might snoop around on Sheldon Brown's website or give him a phone call to see if there are any known stashes of old shifters. There probably are, I just have no idea where to look since the old Third Hand catalog died.
EDIT: I browed SB's site and found this for ya. Looks like they have some Ultegra 8's that have the friction/index switch. http://sheldonbrown.com/harris/shifters.html
