Is a Giant Mountain bicycle any good?

Well I'm looking to buy a used Giant ATX 860. It has an 18 inch frame. Frame is Aluminum 6061-T6. Shifter is a Shimano Alivio. Brakes are M 65/T. For $100.00 is that a good deal?Also where could i find the date of the bicycle made?Or if anybody would know please let me know what year the bicycle was made and if this MTB a good entry level bicycle.Thanks.
