The beach cruiser scene has been heating up recently, with more brands and brighter colors hitting the market. Cruisers provide a very comfortable ride while also being affordably priced. Basic Beach Cruiser bikes are available for under $90, plus shipping, on the Internet. It can be a lot of fun to buy these, and then assemble them the way that you want to, if you have the mechanical ability. All the really tough parts, like the gears are assembled already. Try different types of fenders, from Chrome, to different colors. You can have standard handlebars, or even get chopper style straight handlebars. A plain old beach cruiser bike is good too. I find this to be a great way to go to stores to buy small purchases up to about 1 ½ miles away. I personally don't like a metal front basket, I think it is not that cute for a guy to have, so I put my purchases in a backpack. Saving gas by avoiding using your car can save you some real money too.
Probably, the best deal is if your neighbor or someone down the block is selling one in a yard sale. Then you are all set to get one for under $30. Beware that once these bikes, like any bike, become rusty, they have to be lubricated. And that means not only the chain and the brakes, but the inner lubrication of the pedals and even things like the handlebars, which just proves the old adage that it is hard to get something for nothing. The key thing to avoid is going into a pro-bike shop and getting some fancy mountain bike or speed racing bike for $500, when you know you are out of shape, and not going more than a couple of miles from your house. It's a lot cheaper to have the mechanics in a shop assemble your beach cruiser, and making sure that it is safe. You are going to have to get acquainted with your local bike shop if you do any serious kind of biking, if you put on a good amount of miles a week. You are better off saving them for putting optional features on your bike and for help with routine maintenance. Options can run anywhere from designer labels electric night lights to rear-view mirrors, to wider fenders that have enough surface to paint some angels or devils on. And a bell or horn can be useful, especially if you have been sneaking on the sidewalk, and you want those pedestrians up ahead to get out of the way.
Be aware that if you are doing any sort of speed biking you must wear a helmet, which is not that much fun. You can wear a helmet with a beach cruiser too, but I think it is optional. Don't worry too much is your beach cruiser bike has 7-speeds or no speeds, because even in the hilly country of the North Bronx, NY, at the speeds I am going, it doesn't make that much of a difference. And whether you have multi-speeds or not, you better have a pretty strong pair of legs to get up a big hill, otherwise, either way you are going to end up walking up it.

If You Want a High Quality Biking Shoe Try Shimano Bike Shoes
If you plan to get the most out of your mountain biking, you want to make sure that you invest in a high quality pair of mountain bicycling shoes. Regardless of how experienced you may be with mountain biking, having the right set of shoes can help not only improve your overall ride in terms of comfort but also add a level of safety as well for your feet.
When it comes to cycling shoes, Shimano bike shoes are considered some of the best in the business, not only due to the quality of the shoes themselves but also to the pedigree of the company behind the shoes who have been in the biking business for a very long time.
It's generally accepted that most people should look for biking shoes that can work with both clip-less and clip pedals. Clip-less is generally the normal design for most biking shoes, but you'll also find that there are shoes that also come with different styles and designs as well like toe clips and standard peddled shoes as well.
Many of the original mountain bikes that were first made did not have clipless pedals, and this made getting the feet out of the toe clips quickly rather difficult for riders who needed to do so. This is very unsafe, because often the bike rider was forced to go down with their mountain bike when it lost its balance and fell over.
Thankfully, most mountain bikes made today do not have these clips and riders are able to remove and insert their foot in and out of the pedal with ease, but nonetheless having proper shoes is important so that you can keep traction with the pedal itself.
The quality shoes made by Shimano do not have any laces due to the fact that they can become tangled up in the bike chain itself. The shoes should also allow for plenty of room for the bike rider's feet should they begin sweating after prolonged biking.
If you're looking to get a bit more pedaling power in your mountain biking you want to go with cycling shoes that offer a stiffer sole which allows for increased pressure on the pedal and for increased speed as well. If you expect to be doing a fair amount of walking in your Shimano bike shoes, you might want to opt for a more flexible sole which is a bit more forgiving on the feet when there is a lot of walking.
If you're not sure which bike shoes are the best choice for you, be sure to check out a local bicycle shop and they'll be able to pair you with the right bike shoes for your situation.

Why does the chain on my bike keep falling off?
My single speed bike is equipped with a coaster brake, the kind children's bikes usually have. After pedaling not very far, the (new!) chain will fall off. How can i prevent this from happening? I don't believe that the chain is too long for the bike.
Most probably, the chain is too long or the rear wheel is not positioned properly. The chain should not deflect more than about a half an inch at the center of the slack side. Either remove a link, or move the rear wheel toward the back of the bicycle. One other possibility is a mis-alignment or warping of the front and rear sprockets
Chain, and gloves, off in Tour de France showdown
BAGNERES-DE-LUCHON, France -- The gloves have come off at the Tour de France. Andy Schleck was fighting mad after dropping his chain during a tough climb Monday and then losing the overall lead when defending champion Alberto Contador unabashedly sped ahead to take the yellow jersey.
