Round pedaling gives you a particular advantage in the following situations:
- TT - Time Trial
- TTT - Team Time Trial
- Interval training
- In especially demanding situations
- Ride from one group and up to another group, e.g. in a competitive situation
- Attempting to break away from one or several other riders
- Riding on a mountain bike in various terrains
- Riding in mountains on a road racing bike
Not many use the great advantage that lie in training round pedaling often, and using this "weapon" as your extra gear on the bike.
For those who have the patience and the will to learn round pedaling properly, many incredible resources can be uncovered by using this technique.
You may have heard of "scraping mud off your shoes on the curb" invented by Greg Lemond back in the late 80s. And that is exactly what you should do! "Scraping mud off your shoes on the curb" while your feet are locked in the pedals and keep this position with both feet during the entire movement. From the moment you push one of your feet down and pull up with the other foot. Your heel should therefore be about horizontal and preferably even just under the pedal's middle spindle.
The technique can be an advantage to practice through the winter period for starters, as it demands a certain concentration. It should be practiced often and can be a part of your warm up. It does not demand a lot of effort, when you practice this technique.
Try to focus on the following points:
At first use the exercise as a part of your warm up:
Explanation: It is a new way for your muscles to work and it takes some time getting used to. Do the exercise for about 1 minute, interrupted for 1 minute with a higher rotation, so your muscles are loosened up again. Repeat the exercise as required.
Maximum 60 rpm, rotations per. minute:
Explanation: Rotations that are too quick can blur your concentration regarding the actual pedaling. Your mind and consequently your feet have a hard time keeping up at high speed.
Keep your speed down in order to avoid a high pulse:
Explanation: A high pulse also blurs your concentration. Especially when you start on these exercises, it demands full concentration during the entire pedaling.
Focus on one foot at a time:
Explanation: If you feel the exercise is difficult, then you can focus on only one foot at a time. The other foot can merely "follow round" without you giving it any attention. Train both feet separately for about 1 minute and then train both feet together when you have become familiar with the exercise.
Try it on a "home trainer":
Explanation: On a "home trainer" you can decide on speed, severity and your position. You also have a special opportunity to perhaps train one foot at a time. This has the advantage of being able to focus all your attention on this single movement.
Pull your knee up to the handlebars:
Explanation: For some this focus technique works better. As mentioned you should keep your heel below horizontal. When you focus on that your foot should be up, and you thereby pull your leg up, you ought to focus on pressing the knee up against the handlebars of the bike. You do this while your foot is kept in the aforementioned position.
After 1-2 months of training, increase time and severity:
Explanation: Later in the process, it would be good to do this training in the early spring, you can begin to train with a higher pulse. It is in these situations that you will be able to take advantage of the technique.

The Range Rover Evoque Bike
The newest member of the Range Rover Evoque was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, the Range Rover Evoque bike which is a machine designed in every aspect to deliver fast, agile and secure road. The Land Rover design team that takes credit for the used Land Rover Range Rover in Conwy have now designed a clean, cool and contemporary bike.
The main element of the bike is the high modulus carbon fibre monocoque frame which was crafted by Karbona using techniques derived from Formula 1. With advanced composite construction, it allowed the seat tube section to be integrated into the frame, saving weight and extending the clean flow of the design.
The steering bearings are integrated into the head of the frame to reduce drag and the steering fork is also made of carbon fibre, the wheels were specially commissioned for the Evoque project and have a strong visual impact and the oversized carbon fibre handlebar stem and aerospace alloy handle bars were specified to complement the rest of the bicycle.
The drivetrain and braking systems are finished in matching black chrome and the saddle is upholstered in fine leather, with padded grip tape enhanced with silicone gel, and the performance is supported by the tyre tread which is constructed from triple-density rubber compound with hard-wearing and high-grip qualities.

Gerry McGovern, Land Rover design director, a keen cyclist himself, said: "I wanted to create the ultimate accessory for the Range Rover Evoque – and what could be more perfect than an utterly contemporary, beautifully designed, bespoke Evoque bike. Like the Range Rover Evoque, the bike not only looks fantastic but is precision engineered for ultimate performance."
