Why does the hdmi output on my new pc not work?
I recently purchased an Acer Aspire M3640 desktop pc with an Nvidia Geforce 8600GTS graphics card, the PC is advertised as having an HDMI output and HDMI is printed on the front of the unit. However when I attached my LCD tv to the pc via the HDMI output my tv receives no signal. It works fine through the normal VGA connection. There is also a DVI connection on the pc. What I did notice is that the HDMI output is at the top of the rear of the unit and not the bottom where the other outputs from the graphics card appear to be.
Thanks for the advice, but I've realised now that the HDMI output comes straight from the motherboard and as I have been sold this pc with an upgraded graphics card, the HDMI output has been disabled. However I have a Dual DVI output which I will use by way of a convertor but of course this will not carry the audio signal, I'll get around that some other way.
First, Acer is a bad computer, second, you need to change the video settings so that your computer will put out the image. You can do this by right clicking anywhere on your desktop and opening the "NVidia Control Panel" You can then click on "Set up displays" on the menu on the left side of the window. You should then see somewhere a pull down menu that allows you to choose your connection. You should be able to highlight HDMI. That should solve your problem.
